PRESIDENT SNOW WATCHED HIS GRANDSON. No doubt he felt something for this child, but there was no great love that grandparents have for their grandchildren. In him Snow saw his mistake. His father had ruined his daughter with his own hands.

Adalie used to be a real Capitol girl. Loved loud parties and fancy things, but with Finnick's arrival, everything had changed. She changed. No longer was she the dutiful daddy's girl who waited meekly for his instructions. Adalie rebelled and refused to marry the son of one of Snow's ministers. The girl decided to run away to the Fourth District and have a child with the winner. Only Adalie didn't realise they were from different worlds.

The nourished will never understand the hungry.

- Please let them go," the wife pleaded for her daughter.

- Darling, we've discussed this.

And she would shut up. As much as his wife loved their daughter, she loved her life too. Snow let his wife take Darrel while his mother painfully died inside. The boy was quiet, but sweet. Perhaps he would make a good leader.

- How's it going? - The president was watching the madness through the glass.

- I think we're halfway there, Mr President.

- That's good.

Sitting in the dining room Finnick was devastated and on the verge of despair. The victor was teetering between wakefulness and wandering in his nightmares. Finnick had lost everything. He had been held hostage to his ideas and illusions, for which his son and wife were now paying the price.

He liked to call Adali his wife. They weren't married, but they wanted to be. Adalie wanted to break up with the Snow surname and become Mrs Odair as soon as possible. Her dream was to be a regular District Four resident and forget about her life in the capitol forever. Why loved? Finnick had heard nothing of their fate since the destruction of the arena.

"- I'm sorry Finnick," Plutarch didn't seem chagrined, or at least sharing his grief. - But we didn't make it in time," the clap on his shoulder felt like a slap. - They found them first."

Finnick hoped they were dead.

If they were still alive, there would be no rest for them while Snow breathed down their backs.

President Coin's subordinates came after him and asked him to come with them. He was fine with that. Finnick didn't care.

- 'Yes, it's been a long time since we've seen each other dear,' he heard Caesar's voice as he approached the door.

- I'm glad to be with you today, Caesar," he said.

The door opened and all heads turned towards him. To Finnick Odair. And he was frozen, looking only at her. Adalie Snow.

She'd lost weight. Her cheeks were gone, giving way to sharp cheekbones that didn't suit her romantic nature. The eyes of a forgotten animal. And her nails are chewed off. Her hair dull and her voice not so soft.

That's not his girl.

That's not Adalie.

- Tell us, where have you been? - she sighed heavily and directed her gaze somewhere behind the camera.

- I've been busy with family life. You know, I have a child,' Finnick stepped very close to the screen. - My baby, it's Finnick Odair's.

Caesar paused theatrically.

- Darling, did he use you?

Again that look of incomprehension. She was hunted and helpless.

- At the time I thought it was genuine," she looked down at the floor. - I thought he loved me.

Finnick sobbed. Tears streamed down his face, but he paid no attention continuing to gently stroke the screen with her face.

- Did he want to use you against President Snow? - the anchor repeated the question and Adalie nodded hesitantly.

- Yes, but I think he's being controlled by all these people too.

- Do you still believe in him? - nod.- What would you say if Finnick suddenly saw this tape.

Adalie's gaze would be directed straight at him. Without realising it, she was stabbing him and leaving scars on his back.

- Stop, please," tears flowed from her eyes. - For the sake of our son, for the sake of all the other children, stop.

She sobbed.

The screen went blank. There was a moment's silence in the room, and Finnick couldn't take it anymore.

- Save them, please," he rushed over to President Coin. - They could be your hostages or political refugees, anything, but please get them out of there!

- I'm afraid that's not possible, Mr Odair.

Finnick howled and rushed out of the room. He didn't hear Katniss footsteps or the way she soothed him. How he was escorted to the medical block and injected with morphling. All he felt was heartache. The pain of letting them down. But she always came to him in his dreams and they were all right there.
