I saw the pre recorded broadcast warning for the extermination on obe of the many tvs I passed on my way, hearing the screams of panic start up all around again. I tensed up before slipping into a dark alleyway, somehow I always managed to enc up in these situations, especially this one was a bit too familiar, recalling what happened last year. I stopped when I was well hidden and hid behind a large trash container, crouching behind it like a coward.

I sighed mentally, wondering if that angel would come back like she said she would, I doubted that she even remembered who I was. If I was found by an exorcist I deffinetely wouldn't be as lucky as last year. I hunched more into myself when I heard the flapping of wings and the screams of absolute terror turn into shrieks of agony as demons were murdered, slashed open in a bloody mess just meters from me. I felt sick but over the years I started to learn to cope with it, this was my life now after all.

My blood ran cold however, when I heard a too familiar scream, my legs reacted before I could, I was up and running before I knew it, dashing towards the location where I heard it come from. I knew attacking an exorcist was futile and absolutely hopeless but I couldn't just stand by when they were trying to murder a dear friend of mine when I could atleast help get them time to escape. And so I ran for the angel, which was rising their spear fir the deadly blow, jumped, then delivered the hardest kick to their face that I could.

The angel stumbled back a few steps, I could hear their hushed curses as they rubbed their side of the head I had hit, they looked back up at me and even though their ridiculous mask hid their faces I could tell the angel glared at me.

I glared back as I motioned for my friend to get away, which thankfully they did immediaetly. I narrowly dodged the spear that swung directly to my neck, jumping to the side of the angel quickly, thankfully catching her offguard and managing to kick her to the ground with a loud thud.

I however didn't block the kick towards my stomache, hunching over in pain while I took a few steps back, before another powerfull punch landed on my face, forcing me to stumble and fall down. My blood ran cold as I heard the blade slice through the air, but suddenly a flash of another person crashed into the exorcist, they rolled on the ground for a moment.

They came to a stop with my former attacker on the ground while another exorcist sat on top of them, spear pointed at their throat. "Back off, she's mine." She spat with a low growl, a warning and with a rush of relief I recognised the voice. The same exorcist that I had fought last year came back to save my ass. I almost snickered at the thought, but it was more important to keep my serious face in this situation. The other exorcist grunted and mumbled an apology before flying off.

She watched them fly away, while I rose back to my feet, however before I could even say a word she had swung around suddenly and launched at me. My eyes widened in surprise as I quickly jumped upwards to dodge the attack. I was barely back on the ground when she spun around and flew at me again. This time I jumped up and over her.

I barely managed to jump over her again, but this time she grabbed a hold on my leg and threw on the ground harshly. I crashed on to the ground hard, the impact knocked the air out if my lungs and as I gasped for air she impaled the ground right next to my neck with the spear, I tried jerking away but her foot came crashing down on my shoulder. She leaned down closer and glared at me for a moment. "How dare you almost die by another exorcist?! Don't tell me you've grown weak over the year." She finally said, although she sounded angry I could also hear worry lacing her tone, which didn't surprise me as much as it should've.

I took another deep breath. "I was just protecting someone." I replied, trying to remain neutral but I could feel fear pulsing through my veins, especially when she pulled the spear out if the stone again but she stepped aside and offered me a hand.

I hesitated for a moment before taking her hand, she pulled me back up to my feet and then took a step back. Her mask was fixed now, not revealing one of her eyes like last time. "You're mas-" I was about to point out when she interrupted me. "Yeahhh, had to get it fixed because of the rules. But you're the first one to have damaged it that much." She answered, her tone was implying a smile or atleast a smirk. She stretched before looking at me again.

"You know, I feel like you should at least know my name, if we're going to fight every year, so, I'm Lute." She explained, reaching out a hand for a handshake. "Name's Harvey." I introduced myself and fist bumped her, a handshake seeming too formal for me. She nodded before taking a step back, motioning for me to do the same. "Shall we then, Harvey?" Lute asked, dipping her head to the side and raising her spear slightly. I smiled before answering.

"Always."
