CHAPTER VI ✷ filth teaches filth
FILTH TEACHES FILTH, and Murphy was living in the shadows of it.
As night creeps upon them, he has sent out a witch hunt for the girl. But the fact of the matter is that Nova can't find a single qualm wrong with Murphy's reasonings for justice and his so-called sins. So then why, still, did it trouble her so? Perhaps it was more so his anger for Bellamy that was fueling him onward, and even then, Nova couldn't necessarily say she wasn't also outraged with Bellamy for the same exact reasons. Bellamy had no doubt coerced and corrupted Murphy even further to do his biddings for him the entire time they had been on Earth for a reason he had yet to even tell Nova. But it was there that the truth was revealed, that Nova could be so sure Bellamy had shaped Murphy to be his loyal sidekick and was now forced to reap what he sowed, as if it were even Murphy's faults in the first place that led him to the noose on his neck for something he didn't even do.
Why? Because he was the strongest of the delinquents? Because he already had a nervous swarm of mindless followers who Bellamy thought could be so easily convinced? Because he was already tainted, so called apparent "filth"? After bribing the others to remove their bracelets and quarreling with Clarke for dominance over the camp, spitting metaphorically in Wells's face each time he tried to defend the Ark, and it was Murphy at fault?
The only issue she had lay in the matter of Charlotte's demise. If she thinks about it, murdering someone as punishment wasn't her way of penitence. Charlotte deserves her repercussions and shackles, just as anyone else would. And murder, to Nova, was the easy way out of a justifiable punishment.
