"Alec?!"
I felt someone shaking me. Things were blurry.
I'm not exactly sure what happened, but as I look around me, I remember being at Magnus's place. And then I guess my thoughts got to be too much. Only then did I notice Magnus was sitting right next to me with his hand on my knee.
"Is everything alright?" he whispered, eyebrows raised in confusion. I feel bad; he invited be into his apartment and I freaked out.
I took a deep breath before replying. "Yea," I whispered, "I'm fine."
"Alexander, something obviously happened," he said trailing off.
"I'm not sure what, though. I walked in here hoping I didn't do anything embarrassing, and here I am now," I murmured, looking away. I really screwed up this time. It wouldn't be a wonder if he kicked me out right now for being too weird.
"Nothing you do could embarrass you in front of me," he began, a small smile creeping up on his face. "You're too cute for that."
Did he actually think I was cute? Or was he just saying that to try to make me feel better? What does this even mean? My mind was spinning as I looked down at my lap and smiled. I guess this means that I'll have to try even harder to not be awkward.
Suddenly he grabbed by hand, pulling me up from the couch we were sitting on and leading me toward the door. I was sure that this was the moment he was going to tell me that despite being "cute," I needed to get out.
But when we got to the door, there was no farewell speech. No "I think it's time you left." Nothing at all because he kept walking down the stairs and out the main door.
"Close your eyes," he whispered. Immediately after closing my eyes, I felt him lean away a little, but before I could wonder what was going on, he told me to open them again. The first thing I saw was a large swirling blue mass on the wall of the building, but I quickly realized that it was a portal.
He climbed through, turning back and extending his hand to help me. "Magnus, I'm a Shadowhunter, not a damsel in distress," I muttered. He threw his head back and started laughing, and to be quite honest, I couldn't help but wish that I could see him laugh like that all the time.
"Alright, dear, you can do this on your own," he laughed as I walked through. Only then did I notice our new surroundings. Upon first glance, it appeared that we were in some sort of clearing, trees surrounding a small patch of grass. I heard Magnus snap his fingers, and a red and black checkered blanket popped up on the grass. There was a medium-sized picnic basket sitting on top of it, and fairy lights were strung from tree to tree, illuminating the little area.
I felt Magnus grab my hand and intertwine our fingers, and I smiled softly at him. "Thanks," I whispered.
He just squeezed my hand in response, walking toward the blanket. We sat down, and the food began unpacking itself. Sandwiches and salads levitated out of the basket, and two mugs of mint tea popped up in front of us. I smiled to myself. He remembered I like mint tea.
When the food stopped coming out of the basket, he looked at me. "Well? Let's eat."
And so we did. The next couple of hours were spent talking and eating and laughing and getting to know each other better. Apparently he was banned from ever going to Peru, and his father is the Prince of Hell. Before we knew it, two and a half hours flew by.
"Do you want to stay longer, or should we go?" he asked, looking up at the fairy lights above us.
"It's getting pretty late," I murmured. "I mean, if you want us to stay longer, I'm fine with that."
"No, you're right. We should get going." He snapped his fingers and the food and picnic basket disappeared. We both stood up, and the blanket disappeared as well. Magnus quickly made a portal as the fairy lights disappeared as well, and we stepped through, now standing in front of his building.
"Thank you," I whispered, looking back at where the portal had been just a second ago. "This was really nice," I said turning back to face him.
His yellow-green eyes softened and he smiled. "Indeed it was," he replied. "Do you want to come upstairs for a few minutes?"
"Sure," I said as he opened the door.
Once we got in, we sat down on the couch, both smiling for whatever reason. He was sitting close to me, so close that our shoulders were touching. We sat there talking for a while before the conversation slowly stopped.
I felt him turn to face me, and I looked up at him. There was something in his eyes, similar to a flame as he leaned forward, and suddenly, we were kissing. It felt like my whole body was on fire in an amazing way. I was soaring, and that's when I realized why people made such a big deal about kissing.
I shuffled over so that I was sitting on his lap and holding his face in my hands. I never wanted this to end. The feeling of our lips together and his hands in my hair made me feel like I was on top of the world, and I couldn't get enough of it.
After several moments, we pulled away, foreheads touching.
"Alexander, you're truly something else," Magnus murmured as I stood up and walked towards the door. He followed me out to the staircase.
"I should go before people start wondering where I am," I said, starting to walk down.
Before I got too far, however, Magnus pushed me against the wall and kissed me again, and like the first time, I felt like I was soaring on a cloud of fire. About a minute later, he pulled away smiling.
"See you again soon?" I asked quietly.
"Definitely," he smirked, walking back into his apartment, and I walked back out into the night smiling like an idiot.
