The pretty warlock

The mundane got himself turned into a rat. Stupid mundanes. I knew we never should have bought him to the party, but Clarissa insisted.

Of course, getting himself turned into a rat wasn't enough; he had to be taken home by a bunch of unfriendly vampires. And of course, Jace went with her to rescue him. Surprisingly, I wasn't as bothered by it as I normally would have been.

I was caught up in thoughts of a certain warlock. A certain warlock with cat eyes, perfect makeup, and an easygoing personality.

I sighed as I began to take off my gear. As I'm reaching into my pockets to empty them of excess weaponry, I feel the unfamiliar crinkle of paper. I cautiously pull it out, worried that it might have some weird magic properties that would make me explode or grow antlers and run down the street naked.

Instead, I find that it is just a regular torn sheet of notebook paper, but it's not blank. It has a phone number on it with a message on it.

Hey, call me or something

Magnus Bane

High Warlock of Brooklyn

He just had to make sure I knew he was the "high warlock of Brooklyn."

My breath hitched in my throat. I have his number!! I sprinted over to my bed, almost tripping over my gear, but I managed to grab my phone before I fell flat on my face.

I was about to call him, but I stopped myself before pressing the call button.

Will he think I'm too eager and be creeped out?

No, I can not let him think that I'm creepy. I decide to just text him instead of calling. I sat there for a few minutes, wondering what I should text him. I settled for a subtle "hey it's Alec. I was at your party." I hit send.

It wasn't long before he responded.

Hey cutie. So what's up?

Nothing much, my friend Jace is out with Clarissa to save her mundie friend.

Would he think I was weird for telling him in detail what was going on? Hopefully not because it said that he had just read the text. I waited for several seconds before my phone buzzed. Those may have been the most stressful seconds ever.

I think blondie likes Clary, it's pretty obvious. I mean, have you seen the way he stares at her?!

My heart sank. So it wasn't just me who saw Jace's love for Clarissa. I was hoping that I was simply imagining it, but apparently it was "pretty obvious."  I was shaken out of my thoughts when my phone buzzed again.

Do you like anyone? ; )

My heart faltered. Wow, he's straightforward. Why did he care? What did this mean? I was a jumble of nerves, but I still managed to type out a response.

No :(  forever alone

It was risky, but it was worth it. I eagerly awaited his response. After twenty seconds, I began to panic. What if he thought I was weird for adding the forever alone part? What if he thought I was weird that I was not in a relationship?! What if-

His response came in.

I can change that ; )
