Annoying Siblings and Hungry Cats

It felt like forever, but the time to leave for Magnus's house came around. I had picked out a cute navy blue sweater and a pair of black skinny jeans, hoping that I didn't seem to shabby or too casual. I was going for a subtle I-don't-pay-too-much-attention-to-how-I-dress look. I hoped that he knew that looks weren't a main thing for me; they were definitely not my forte.

I quickly escaped the Institute, managing not to be seen by my annoying nagging siblings. I was lost in my thoughts of how I hoped the night would go, and it took no time at all for me to get to Magnus's house. I saw him step out the door, and I assumed he had been waiting for me. I didn't want to get ahead of myself, but I blushed despite my attempts not to.

"Hey," he said, leaning on the door frame. I got chills down my spine when I saw his spiky hair and striking green cat eyes. I didn't even know him that well, but he was already making me feel breathless with the simplest of actions.

"Hi," I replied, smiling. "How was your day?" I asked sweetly.

"It was ok, but only because I was thinking about you," he said, adding a dramatic wink at the end. "How was yours?"

"Filled with annoying siblings constantly bugging me. I'm sick and tired of them," I sighed. We walked into his house, and we headed toward the couches. He sat down, patting the spot next to him, inviting me to join him. I slowly shuffled over to where he was sitting and sat down, making sure not to seem too laid-back. After sitting there for a few minutes with him staring at me and me staring at my feet, I felt him shift closer to me, causing me to stand a little straighter.

"Hey, relax a little. I'm not going to feed you to the Chairman. He is hungry, though, beware" he laughed. I smiled a little, leaning back into the couch.

"Sorry," I muttered, trying to mold myself into the couch. We sat in silence for a substantial amount of time before he clapped his hands once and stood up.

"So do you want anything? Tea, coffee?" he asked, clearly fed up with the silence.

"No thanks. I'm fine, don't worry," I said, wanting to be polite. I didn't want to cause him too much trouble for fear that he would never ask me to come over again. I tended to have that effect on people. Or maybe it was just my sass....

"Well too bad. You need to choose something," he insisted.

"Anything's fine, I guess," I replied. He snapped his fingers, creating a blue spark around his hand, and instantly, a minty smell filled the room. I looked down to the table to see that a steaming cup filled with delicious-looking tea. My eyes went wide as I recognized the smell from last time I came over. Muttering a quick thanks, I grabbed the mug and sipped it, inhaling sharply when the hot tea stung my lips. He laughed quietly as I pulled my mouth back from the edge of the cup, causing me to glare in his direction. "How dare?! Don't laugh at my pain," I said, feigning hurt.

"What are you talking about? I wasn't laughing," he said, trying to control his giggles.

"Oh, really? I would beg to differ," I smiled. We sat smiling and laughing for a while, but we eventually fell into a comfortable silence. I suddenly remembered my tea, which had been cooling for a few minutes, snatching the mug and greedily gulping down the delicious tea. I could feel Magnus staring at me, and deciding to tease him about it, I looked up over the rim of my mug at him. To my surprise, he didn't look away, instead continuing to stare directly at me.

"Enjoying your tea, I see," he said with a smirk. I don't even know why I found that funny, but I couldn't help laughing; I had temporarily forgotten the mug. I accidentally choked on some tea, breaking out in a coughing fit, and determinedly waving Magnus away when he moved toward me to try and help. I eventually managed to control my coughs, keeping to a steady stream of quiet ones as I gently sat my mug down on the table. Only then did I realize that Magnus had been laughing the entire time. Why did I always have to be so stupidly clumsy
