YOURS FOREVER...

Dear Child of God,

We all have that thing we long for. Some days I long for certain types of food, on other days, I really long to have the highest score in my exams. The latter is very important considering I am a scholar and I need high grades to maintain the scholarship. For you, it may be something else, something more important, something that has a higher value to you but is out of reach. The point I'm trying to make is that we all have longings but even if tge wants or needs are met, they can still be taken away from us.

During the Easter period, my church took us out for our family camp. On the second day, we had a session and I'd like to share something I learnt with you. If you'd join me to read Luke 10:38-42, we see the encounter between Martha, Mary and Jesus. Martha and Mary were sisters. It is important to remember that Martha had been the one to invite Jesus into their home, not Mary. Jesus came in and Martha began to make preparations for Jesus since He was their guest. She was probably cooking a lot of meals. We also need to remember that Jesus rarely walked alone so we can imagine that there's a likelihood people were with Him. Indeed, Martha had a lot of work to do.

On the other hand, Mary just sat at the feet of Jesus and listened to everything he said. Of course this got Martha angry because while she had a lot of preparations to do, Mary just sat there doing nothing but listening to the guest they had to prepare for. So she complained to Jesus and told him to tell Mary to get up and help her out but let's pay attention to Jesus' reply. He said:

"Martha, Martha, you are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed-or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her."

We see Martha working hard and trying to get things done but next to her, we see Mary listening to Jesus. I think this story points to the fact that just like Martha, we want to achieve a lot of things, we long for so many things, we want to impress so many people but Jesus is pointing towards Mary and telling us to be like her. But why? He said so himself. All the things we long for can be taken away from us but the one thing that will never be taken from us is our fellowship with God.

With this, I want to encourage you to put your relationship with God first. Long for your relationship with God to be stronger and more things will come. I'll end this chapter like this:

"Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you."

God bless you.
