Dear Child of God,
One of the ten commandments states "You shall not murder". I spoke more on this in my other book: G.R.A.C.E, which will be out soon but it is fitting that I discuss a little of this command from another perspective. Murder is unlawful killing. Killing can be legal in cases of self-defence but that's not the focus of this chapter. God has stated in the old commandment that murder is a sin and even in the new testament, Jesus spoke more on it. Many believe the focus was physical killing but people can be killed in other ways.
So many of us have tongues sharper than a double-edged sword and have made it a point to use it on people. We spit negative words at them with no pity or remorse, sometimes premeditated and other times impulsive. Our words have cut so deep into people and have placed scars in their hearts. Sometimes they even open old wounds and make them bleed over and over again. Our words have caused people to never heal from past trauma. This is why I believe that some of us are walking slaughter-houses ready to take in anyone at any time with the aim to leave them temporarily or totally damaged. We kill people emotionally.
The saddest part is, most times, we tend to forget these things but the people we hurt tend to carry the scars about. Not only do we break the commandment of murder, we also break the commandment of loving one another. It is not love when you talk down on people, threaten or bully them verbally. It is not love when you use your words, especially if you're a person in power above these people, to get them to fear you. Love will earn you respect, a bad mouth will earn you fear and disgust.
Through this chapter, if you had someone in mind that you have hurt with your words. It is time to apologise. Maybe there is someone who hurt you instead, try telling the person but if they are aware and refuse to apologise, pray to God for healing and also pray for them. While I know many of us fall into the second category, I hope that if you happen to fall into the first category, you find the courage to apologise to these people and also pray to God to teach you the right things to say in moments of anger. Let the words of our mouth and the meditations of our hearts be acceptable in God's sight.God bless you.
