In the midst of noisy streets and constant hustle, I find myself worn out from the same old routine. It's 9:00 p.m. and the traffic only adds to my headache. Finally home, I collapse onto my bed, hoping for some peace.
But as I lie there, memories I'd rather forget flood my mind. I try to push them away, but they won't leave me alone. Tears start to fall as panic sets in.
I reach for my pills, swallowing them down to calm my racing heart. Leaning on the table, I wonder when I'll ever be free from these haunting memories. It's all too much, and all I can do is cry.
...
The morning unfolded with the same predictable routine: the piercing sound of my alarm, the groggy struggle to wakefulness, and the steady stream of caffeine to jolt me into consciousness. Despite the warmth of the sun filtering through the blinds, I couldn't shake off the weight of exhaustion that seemed to cling to me like a heavy cloak.
After dressing for work, I made my way through the bustling streets to the hospital where I was employed. The familiar faces of my coworkers greeted me as I entered, offering cheerful smiles and friendly nods. Though I appreciated their warmth, I couldn't help but feel like an outsider in their midst, my reserved demeanor setting me apart from their lively chatter.
As the morning progressed, I buried myself in the tasks at hand, finding solace in the routine of my duties. It was during our lunch break that the atmosphere shifted, conversation turning to rumors of military training assignments in Busan District.
"So, did you hear about the training program?" Soohyeon asked, her eyes wide with excitement as she leaned across the table.
The news sparked a flurry of discussion among my colleagues, their voices rising in animated chatter as they speculated about the potential adventure.
"I heard they're looking to send some nursing staff from our hospital," Mia chimed in, her tone tinged with excitement. "Can you imagine? A change of scenery and hot military trainees is your responsibility"
The prospect of such a drastic change filled the air with a palpable energy, though my own feelings remained decidedly mixed.
"What do you think, Irene?" Soohyeon turned to me, her eyes curious as she awaited my response.
Caught off guard, I hesitated for a moment, unsure of how to articulate the conflicting emotions swirling within me.
"I'm not sure," I admitted, my voice soft as I struggled to find the right words. "Part of me is intrigued by the idea, I'd rather want to stay here ."
My admission was met with understanding nods from some of my coworkers, while others continued to debate the merits of the opportunity.
They knew about my mental health condition and I am thankful they understand and respect me in the way they can.
As the conversation ebbed and flowed around me, I couldn't help but feel a sense of apprehension gnawing at the edges of my mind. The thought of leaving behind the familiar comforts of my workplace filled me with a sense of unease, especially given my struggles with mental health.
In that moment, the prospect of change loomed large on the horizon, casting a shadow over the otherwise mundane routine of my daily life.
"Good afternoon everyone, before you go home we would like to tell you a very important announcement" Finally, work has done but director Wu called us all nurses of the hospital to gather in this hall room.
"We want to inform you all that one of our hospital, M.C Hospital, has been selected by the government to send nurses for military training in Busan Province. We've already compiled a list of the nurses who will be attending," announced Director Wu.
