What happened?

I woke up with a pounding headache which kept me from opening my eyes. I tried to sit up, but the minute I moved, my whole body ached with such pain that I decided to stay still.

All I could do is groan and hope that all my limbs were still intact.

Slowly the realization of what happened came over me and a surge of adrenaline helped me sit up slightly.

"You're awake, thank god" I heard a strangers voice, Deep and soothing but definately not anyone I knew. A doctor maybe?

I tried to answer but my voice wouldn't come. My throat felt like sandpaper and every breath I took was excruciating.

"Here, let me help you" I felt a pair of strong hands steady me and lean me back against a fluffy pillow. Thirty seconds later I felt a glass of water being placed on my hands. "Do you think you can open your eyes? I have some medication I need you to take. They're not overly strong but I think it will help take some edge off the pain."

I nodded no, then yes, and heard him shuffling away before the sounds came near me again. Rough hands touched mine and placed a couple of pills into them.

I took a small sip of water and, when I felt I was able to, I swallowed the pills in one gulp. The simple action of taking the medication wiped me out and, soon, I felt myself drifting off again.

When I came back to I did feel a little better. I guess the medication helped more than I thought and I was able to slowly open my eyes. The headache was still there but it no longer felt like someone was slicing into my brain.

I let my eyes focus and was grateful that the sun was just setting and it was no longer bright in this place. I was surprised as I took in my surroundings.

I was not in a hospital as this was the furthest thing from a medical facility that I've ever seen.

I was laying on a cozy bed and surrounded by a cozy cabin. I pictured that goldilocks would have walked into something like this.

The place was small with a wood kitchen in the corner, a small fireplace in the middle, and a few pieces of wooden furniture carefully placed to maximize the availabe space.

I also noticed that I was laying in the only available bed and a handsome man was sleeping, sitting upright, in a chair.

"Ahem" I cleared my throat in an effort to, both, try and prepare myself to talk and also to wake him up.

The poor man startled but looked relieved to see me sitting up and alert.

"Oh thank god, I really wasn't sure you were going to make it" he quickly got up and poured me another glass of water.

As he walked towards me I took in his features and decided that he did not look like a serial killer, although I didn't have a lot of experience in that department.

He had longer brown hair that had no particular style, a well groomed beard, and seemed like Someone who took pride in his physique.

He was everything that I would want in a man and cursed myself for even thinking it. I just got out of a messy relationship and almost died, I should not be checking out my saviour.

"Thanks, where am I? And what happened?" I asked while I took the water from him.

"You're in a cabin, in a very remote part of Nova Scotia and what happened, well I was hoping you'd be able to fill me in. I was out fishing when I found you, barely alive, washed up onto a bed of rocks." He eyed me sceptically but tried to mask it as soon as I noticed.

I filled him in on everything I remembered and watched as he sat there in silent shock. You could see that he was devastated by the news, moreso than I would have expected.

"You should rest now" he got up and walked towards the fire, adding a few more logs to keep it going. "I'm going to go out for a little bit and when I get back, if you're up for it, I made you some soup. I figured it would be something you could stomach"

I nodded and closed my eyes. I wanted to ask him where he was going but My whole body felt heavy and exhausted.

The need to sleep overtook my curiosity and within minutes I was out like a light.
