I sat on a nearby rock as I watched the water from the lake ripple. Frogs and fishes swim by as I relax. The warm sun beats down on me as I sweat. The black tank top soaks it right up. I put my hair up as I splash some lake water on my face. Cleansing it.

I hear footsteps nearby. A young boy that goes by the name Carl Grimes sat next to me. He was young, like me. Once the world ended, I never thought I would have made it out alive. I never once thought that kids like me would survive in a world like this. Till I met him and Sophia.

Sophia was quiet. She was too her self lot and was a momma's girl. In the night I can hear her parents argue. Her father would slap her mother across the face as her mother falls to her knees in tears. She didn't deserve this. None of them did. Her father never layed a hand on Sophia. Little Sophia was off doing something that Carol, her mother, made her do. Just so she ain't near the mess and chaos.

Carl didn't say anything. We just sat in silence as we both stared at the lake. The beautiful layers on the canon walls that caged us inside. The feeling of calmness as we are safe here, away from the dead. The sound of water helps me relax. As I close my eyes I take all these senses in, using them.

Carl couldn't help but do the same thing. Such a lover boy. He understood. He lost his dad. He doesn't talk about him much but apparently he got shot in the shoulder during a shoot out. His friend Shane tried to help him but he couldn't wake up. The whole hospital was a mess and he couldn't risk it. He didn't want to take him out of bed, worried the men with guns that shit the infected would shoot them both in cold blood, in fear they were bitten.

Shane was an old friend of Rick's. They would do anything together, even work together in the police department.  They helped stop crime even if it meant to put themselves in danger for others. That's what I will think of. I never meet Rick but, I can tell he is one to do anything for his family. Carl has split decision to either mourn and except his father's death or keep dreaming. I mean if he can survive a shoot to the shoulder, he can survive anything.

As I opened my eyes I saw the birds fly high, squeaking and tweeting as they flew. The beautiful blue clean water reflected their silhouettes from the sky. As I watched them spread their wings I hear some vehicle pull up. It was the other half of our group. They recently went on a run into the city for supplies and it looks like they found a friend. Officer Friendly, Carla dad. I smile as Carl runs up to him with open arms. Rick quickly welcomed him in and held him tight as if he was going to blow away. Lori looked like she seen a ghost. She hesitantly walked to Rick. Once he touches her she sigh in relief.

Everyone looked at Shane as he stared Rick down. He looked pissed but I didn't let that ruin the mood. I put up a smile as I see that Carl's family was now united and happy. I just wish I got to be united with mine. Maybe they could take me in? I slowly walk up to the man, holding my small hand up as he takes it in his. He holds it gently and thanks me for helping keep his son safe and sane.
