I slowly walked up the wooden stairs, my backpack weighing me down a lot. This is what I get for bringing home three text books. I sighed as I reached the top of the stairs and walked about a yard before reaching my room. I placed my backpack on the ground by my closet and fell face first onto my bed. I should probably introduce myself.

My name is Maxcine Grace. But everyone calls me Max. I'm 15 years old, I live in Jasper, NV and in foster care. My former dad, who was a single parent, left me with my current family when I had just turned 5. I barley remember him. The only reason I remember him is the necklace I have. It's a glass heart that looks like it has green spirals in it. Sometimes, if I hold it in my hand, I get a sudden feeling like I'm missing someone. Other times it's other emotions, but it doesn't always happen. Anyways, the couple I live with now are the same ones I've been with the past decade. They're really nice. Wealthy too. However, they are always out on a work related trip. Both Kevin (the dad) and Abby (the mom) are CEOs of a major company. That means I kinda live on my own. I don't mind. It gives me space to do whatever I want, go where ever I want, ect, ect. It's been that way ever since I turned 13. But, parents will be parents. They pay someone to come by the house to check up on me once a week. I go to a public school, have many friends and yeah. Oh! I forgot to mention. I have red eyes and purple hair that isn't dyed. I wear contact lenses though so it looks like I have brown eyes.

Anyway, I'm in my bathroom taking my contact lenses out when I hear the doorbell. I blink my eyes several times before I walk downstairs to answer it. I get to the front door and peep out of the peeping hole.

"Hey Max!" I sighed. Mark. He's the person that comes to check on me. I open the door with a smile.

"Hey Mark." I try to say without sounding so mad.

"Listen. I can't stay for very long. I have a plane to catch and I thought I would stop by to see if you're okay." Mark explained.

"I'm fine." I said.

''Awesome. I'm going to be gone for two weeks so I'll call you to check up on ya, kay?"

"Sure."

"Awesome." And with that, he turned around and jogged to his car. I watched him pull out for a moment before closing the door and going back to my room. I jumped onto my bed, garbed the remote and turned my 55" TV on. After a while, I fell asleep.
