Part 6: Revealing Mysteries

Ethan's thoughts were racing as he pursued the Dark Rabbit through the Upper Sector's mazelike streets. There was no going back now, even though the discoveries' weight was threatening to shatter his spirit. The only way forward was to face reality, regardless of how painful it was.

They drew near an unassuming structure when the Dark Rabbit stopped, facing Ethan with an intensity that made Ethan shudder. He spoke in a quiet, frantic voice, saying, "What you are about to see will change everything you thought you knew about our world.". "Are you prepared to face the consequences of that knowledge?"

With his heart racing, Ethan forced himself to swallow. Saying "I am," he spoke in a voice that was scarcely audible. "I have to know the truth."

A glimmer of pride crossed the covered face of the Dark Rabbit as he nodded. "Then let us begin."

When he took Ethan inside, he showed him a huge, empty room crammed with tall bookshelves and old manuscripts. Ethan was filled with wonder and fear as he took in the scene, the air heavy with the smell of decaying matter.

"What on earth is this place?" he inquired, his voice becoming an echo in the silence.

"The hidden archives of Arcadia," the Dark Rabbit responded, running a gloved hand along the spines of the books. "These walls hold the secrets of our world and the truths buried for generations."

As Ethan pursued the Dark Rabbit further into the archives, his thoughts began to spin out of control. Inconsistencies, unfairness, and other unexplainable aspects of their culture had always been apparent to him. However, he had never dared to contemplate the enormity of the deceit or the profundity of the depravity that permeated their entire universe.

While they wound their way through the mazelike halls, Ethan couldn't help but think about his loved ones and the life he'd known in the Upper Sector. Even though he knew he was in a privileged position, he never challenged the underlying assumptions that kept them divided. His upbringing had shielded him from the hardships endured by people in the Lower Sector, thanks to its relative ease and safety.

However, Ethan could feel his worldview disintegrating with every step he took. His entire life, he had been kept in the dark about a fact that the Dark Rabbit had spoken in cryptic terms, and that fact was surrounded by old books. An unsettling reality that could demolish his entire worldview.

As they stepped into a cramped, barely lit chamber, the Dark Rabbit pointed to a pedestal in the room's centre, where an old manuscript was lying. "This is the secret to comprehending Arcadia's actual character," he murmured with an air of reverence. "The prophecies and histories that have been hidden from the people for generations."

Fearfully reaching for the manuscript, Ethan kneeled down at the pedestal. Crackling under his fingertips, the pages of the book released a cloud of dust that swirled in the candlelight as he lifted the cover.

As he stroked his fingertips over the unfamiliar symbols, the words on the pages started to change and transform into a script he could comprehend, even though he had never seen them before.

"Arcadia, a world of unity and prosperity, was the only place there was in the beginning," he read aloud, his voice breaking with each word. However, time sowed the seeds of discord, eventually dividing the globe. A sanctuary for the well-off in the upper sector and a prison for the downtrodden in the lower sector.

As the reality of Arcadia's history unfolded before his eyes, Ethan's heart sank. There was no organic progression of civilization that led to segmentation. A shadowy group of powerful people, operating in secrecy, had planned and executed it.
