"Hurry up, Darius. We'll get swept out to sea or smashed on the rocks with the engine off!"
Darius grumbled for Kenji to stop rushing him as he finished the last heavy-duty sellotape to patch up the hole in the hull. He hovered beside the hole, attached to a rope that Yas and Sammy held tightly. Kenji was in the helm, and Brooklynn sat alone, glaring frustratedly at the map. We had yet to find a dock that a pair of annoying ouranosaurs wasn't occupying.
I hummed another song I couldn't remember the name to, laying beside Ben and Bumpy at the back of the boat with my feet dangling in the pretty blue waters. It left me with a great view of the clouds as they performed a theatrical piece, so I wasn't complaining.
"Alright, pull me up!" Darius said from the hull. Yasmina and Sammy tugged at the rope until Darius was close enough to the railings to climb over them. He sighed, unravelling the rope from his waist.
"We have to fix that hole, or the gas will be the least of our problems," he said.
Kenji climbed from the helm to stand by Darius, Yas and Sammy. "I thought having no GPS was the least of our problems," he said, crossing his arms.
"Yeah, and uh, not to add to the doom and gloom, but I'm pretty sure we're also sinking," she said. As if to prove her point, the boat rocked and creaked concerningly.
"Nah. We're just riding low in the water cause of uh..." Kenji slowly turned to face me, Ben and Bumpy.
I glanced at the water I had been kicking my feet in. Oops. I quickly pulled in my legs and knelt on my knees like Ben. I suppose we should have gone more to the middle of the boat. It's no wonder we were about to sink. Everyone else's gazes slowly landed on us three, and Ben glared back.
"Oh, right. Blame the dinosaur!" Ben said harshly. He turned back to Bumpy and hugged her head, whispering sweetly, "Don't listen to him. You're perfect the way you are. Isn't there some non-dino-infested dock we can get to?"
"The closest one is on the other side of the island. We'll never make it. We're doomed and gloomed, indefinitely," Brooklynn sighed, making her way to Kenji and the others with the map. She paused to lean against the ladder with a gloomy frown.
"HA! Hold up! There is another dock not far from here—a private dock that's not on any map," Kenji exclaimed.
I gasped, shooting up. Oh my gosh! How could I forget!? Isla Nublar has three private docks: one for the staff (Masrani, Claire, etc.), one for importing food and other bits and bobs for the dinosaurs, and a third for Dad!
"THE DOCK NEAR THE P-HOUSE!!"
Everyone went silent and stared at Kenji with weird-out frowns and confused, narrow eyes. I covered my mouth, silently giggling at their expressions. This was priceless!
"I went before we left," Ben said.
"BWAHAHA!!" I burst out laughing so hard I dropped to the floor by Ben's knee. It was too much!! I told Kenji that nobody would know what building we discussed if we kept using that name. Now, the others looked between me and Kenji, utterly perplexed.
"What's so funny?" Ben asked, raising an eyebrow at me.
"Sorry, sorry," I gasped. "Kenji! I told you we should name it something else. Every–single–time. HAHA!"
"It?" Darius repeated.
"Our dad's penthouse. There's a private pier and everything," Kenji explained with gestures and theatrics as I calmed down.
"And you're just now telling us this?..." Yasmina asked scrutinisingly, glaring at Kenji. I was so glad she didn't look at me with that evil stare. I got to run off free of fault, haha!
