First Impression

The Cookout

*Yawn*
Maddie wakes up from a good nights rest. She heads downstairs to find the scent of perfectly cooked breakfast made by her mother.
"Morning, Maddie! Did you make any friends yesterday" Maddie's mom asks.
Maddie glares at her mom with a big smile on her face.
"Oh. So you did! A guy?"
Maddie says "Well, a girl too."
"What's their names?" Asks her mom.
Maddie replies. "Matt and Hope!"
"Well maybe Matt and Hope would like to join us for dinner. Your dad's having a cookout and maybe they would wanna come!" Maddie's mom says.
Maddie shakes her head, "sounds good to me"
"Oh, and Maddie?" Asks Maddie's mom
Maddie replies "Yeah mom?"
Maddie's mom asks "When are you gonna start school?"
"I don't know yet, maybe tomorrow" Maddie says
"Okay" says Maddie's mom.
Its just hours before the cookout starts. Maddie calls up Hope and invites her to the cookout. Maddie rushes over to the park to see if Matt's there. Lucky for her, he was playing basketball again. She invites him over for the cookout and has small talk with him for a little while. In between the small talk Matt asks for Maddie's number so he knows when to come over. Maddie's face lightens up. Even though she knows its just for more information on the cookout, he now has her number, which means the most popular guy in school is going to call her! She smiles and says "Well, I gotta go wash up, see you at the cookout" Matt then replies with "Okay, see you there"
Maddie runs back to her house smiling bigger than she ever has. She runs up to her room and for the first few minutes she paces back and forth not knowing what to wear.
"Should I wear something comfy?" She asks herself
What if he thinks I look like a bum?
"How about something fancy?'
But its a cookout Maddie, you'll get yourself all dirty.
"Maybe I should just wear a T-shirt with some shorts"
Yeah, that sounds perfect!
Maddie hops into the shower.
After that she decides to curl her hair.
*ring ring*
Its Matt. Maddie doesn't hesitate to pick up the phone.
Maddie: "Hey!"
Matt: "Hey! Where's your house again?"
Maddie: "Oh, it's the second one on the left past the park."
Maddie: "Its the one with the Black truck"
Maddie: "Here, I'll just wait outside for you"
Matt: "Okay Thanks"
Maddie: "No problem!"
Matt: "K bye"
Maddie: "Bye"
Maddie is really nervous. She hurries to finish her hair. She storms downstairs and her Dad asks "Woah Woah Woah what's going on?" Her mom simply says "She has a "friend" coming over!" Her dad says "Oh, well that would explain a lot"
Maddie sees Matt down the street. When he comes, Maddie invites him in and gives a mini tour of the house.
Seconds after Matt arrives, Hope shows up.
"May I have a word with you Maddie?" Hope asks.
"What's up?" Maddie asks
"You never told me HE was gonna be here." Hope says
"What's wrong with that?" Asks Maddie
Hope replies. "Nothing, it's fine."
"Okay then" Maddie says with a confused look on her face.
The burgers are flipped and everyone is eating.
"So, Matt?" Maddie's mom begins
"Mom. No" Maddie whispers
"I wanna get to know your friends that's all" Maddies mom continues.
Maddie's mom asks both Hope and Matt a series of questions.
Once everyone was done eating, Maddie invited Hope and Matt up to her room.
She showed them the scrapbook Amber and Jack had made for her as a moving away gift.
It was getting late so Hope dismissed herself from the part and closing with a "See you later" and Maddie said the same as well.
Matt on the other hand stayed a little longer.
Maddie and Matt had talked for about an hour trying to get to know each other and one thing led after the other and before you know it, they were laying next to each other, eyes closed.
