The Unexpected Lovers

Chapter 3

Bella POV

It's been about a month since I had that talk with Alice, and I almost kills me every day to know who I'm meant to be with and I can't have her.

Today I'm going to watch the Cullen's play baseball.

We're at the field when suddenly Alice freezes, Edward whips his head and looks at her, tilts his head, and looks at an empty space at the edge of the field.

"There coming," Alice announces.

My eyes widened they meant the vampires who have been killing humans in this area.

"Come on," Edward mummers and starts tugging me away.

"No Edward it's too late," Carlisle cautions.

"Get your hair down," Edward says desperately to me.

I do as he says but Rosalie mumbles, "like that'll help I can smell her from across the field."

"Stay behind me and don't say a word," Edward ordered, he placed himself in front on me.

They all stiffened and I assumed they had arrived.

They talked, Carlisle had them convinced, Edward and I were about to leave when the wind changed direction.

The blonde dude put his nose in the air like a dog and breathed in deeply, "I see you brought a snack," he said in a husky voice looking at me.

Edward snarled and jumped in front of me and his family jumped in front of me as well. Esme being the closest to me, I could hear the snarl deep in her chest as she crouched in front of me.

"I think it's best if you leave," Carlisle said politely, but anyone could hear the authority in his voice.

"I can see the game is over, we'll go know," the black guy stated, obliviously wanting to avoid a fight.

"James," the black man ordered. The blonde man/James stood up slowly, his eyes never leaving me, the woman jerked out of her crouch as James neared her, he wrapped an arm around her shoulders and the strode away.

But not once did Esme relax, she stayed in a tense crouch until they were gone completely.

"What are we going to do?" Edward asked.

Esme turned to look at me, her eyes black.

"I don't know," Esme responded, "but we must protect Bella."
