Felicity sits in her living room, feeling exhausted but unable to sleep well. Her mind is going a mile a minute and she isn't sure how to slow it down. She wishes deep down that Luke had stayed because talking with someone was better than talking with herself and her unwanted thoughts.
She also wishes with all her heart that she could just be normal. She finds herself crying on the couch as everything came tumbling out at once. Felicity feels like a total wreck.
A waste of space-
Before the thoughts could fully take over, there is loud knocks on her door.
"Flick?" A familiar voice asks through the door.
She can feel how warm her cheeks were from the tears. She walks to the door and cracks it open only slightly." Luke?"
"Hey you left your phone in my car."
She tries to keep him from seeing her face. "Oh sorry."
"Are you okay?"
"People need to stop asking me that."
Before she could stop him, he pushes the door open further. Immediately he sees her tear stained face. "Felicity?" He steps forward. A look she can't decipher on his face.
"I just-" she couldn't think of a good excuse to why she was crying. "Gosh, I'm a mess."
He wraps his arms around her in seconds. She's so taken back by his sudden embrace that she doesn't hug back for a short while. He holds her regardless. And after a little while, she's holding him close too even if warning alarms are going off in her head. Her body carves perfectly into his. She can't remember the last time someone held her like this, and she feels herself unwind in his arms. The shadows fall back and it is just them for a bittersweet moment.
When they finally do part, Luke uses his thumbs to wipe away the tears on her cheeks. She looks up at him." I'm sorry-"
"Don't apologize." Is all he says, his voice gentler than she'd ever heard before. His fingers tenderly graze the back of her neck.
"You're probably wondering-"
"You don't have to tell me unless you want to." He interrupts once more. And she takes him up on that offer. That night regardless of the time, Luke sits with Felicity on the couch. And he doesn't only hold her but the little girl inside of her that so desperately craves to be loved.
For the first time in what was years, Felicity falls into a soundless sleep. When morning does come, Luke reluctantly woke her up for work.
She feels the need to apologize again but he won't hear it. Even after he leaves to go to his own apartment, she wants to run after him and beg on her knees for him not to view her differently after she had fallen apart in his hold.
She arrives at work early, feeling more refreshed than ever. She had gotten a coffee for Luke as a wordless apology.
Here Luke, here's a coffee. Thanks for staying with me as I cried like a child. It feels stupid. She owes him a lot more than a coffee.
He is the first to enter the bullpen. His eyes immediately land on hers. "Good morning, Flick." He smiles at her.
He'd been there as she had collapsed into pieces and he still manages to smile at her. She almost wished he'd roll his eyes at her and tell her to grow up and stop being pathetic. She'd feel less guilty.
"Flick." He said suddenly.
"What?"
"Don't beat yourself up."
"I deserve it." She mutters before handing him his coffee.
He picks it up." You don't."
"What?"
"Deserve it. You don't deserve any of the bad things that are happening in your life right now. I don't know what they are but I do know you deserve a lot better."
She's not able to answer before the rest of team shows up and they're dragged off to the briefing room for their case.
Before long they're on their way to a small town in Nevada to look for the killer of three girls.
It takes three days, before they catch a man who fits the profile perfectly. But they had to prove his guilt.
"So who should we send in?"
"None of the men. We want to get him to slip up and the best way to do so is by tag teaming him with something he's not levelheaded around." Matt says glancing at woman in the room.
"Tara. Felicity." Emily says." I want you two to go in."
Felicity nods." Okay, let me just go freshen up." She meets Luke's eye as she leaves the room but quickly looks away.
