Luke finds himself watching Felicity from the bar as she dances the night away. Her hair flys wildly as she spins and her laughs could be heard over the music.
"That your girl?"
Luke diverts his attention on the bartender who's speaking to him." What?"
"The ginger. Is she your girl?" He repeats with a toothy grin as he dried a glass.
Luke blushes embarrassed that someone noticed him watching her so intently." Uh, no, she's not."
"I see. Sorry for assuming."
"You're fine." Luke answers taking a sip of his drink. "Happens all the time. I don't know why."
The bartender leans over the bar. "It's the way you look at her." After a few seconds of silence between them he laughs loudly as if to wave off the notion. "But what would I know. You want another beer?"
"I'm good." Luke answers quietly before he's left alone once more. He glances back over his shoulder at where Felicity and Penelope still dance. The dance floor has emptied considerably and he could see them more clearly now. Felicity had her arms around Penelope and they were giggling with joy.
His heart pangs as he watches. He finds himself walking over without another thought. Penelope grins at him as he nears. "You here to dance, newbie?"
"I can't dance." He says lamely, unsure why he even came over.
She laughs." Everyone can dance."
Felicity smiles at him lightly. "You said you were a man of many talents, one of them has got to be dancing."
They push him to dance with them, and he finally relents. So the trio dances for a little while before it becomes a duo because Penelope disappears to go get nachos.
Before they can get off the dance floor, the lights dim and the music slows.
Luke smiles, suddenly confident." Now slow I can do.""You don't strike me as the slow dancing type." She answers staring up at him with curious eyes.
"Growing up with sisters meant a lot of using me as a dance partner to practice." He admits quietly as couples crowd the dance floor around them.
Felicity chuckles." I see. Wanna show me some moves?"
He steps closer and wraps his arms around her waist. She snakes her arms up and around his neck before they sway side to side.
"Don't step on my toes." She whispers, never taking her eyes off his.
He chuckles softly." I won't."
Luke feels overwhelmed at their proximity. He can smell her cherry blossom perfume and it's a nice change from the smell of the bar. He finds himself pulling her a little closer and his cheek touches hers.
The rest of the bar seems a blur as they dance. The other people are forgotten. Luke knows this will earn him teasing from the rest of the team but he doesn't care right now. All he can focus on is her. And the wild beating in his chest.
When the song ends and they pull part, she smiles shyly up at him. He stares back... like he can't seem to look away. His heart pounds in his chest and for a second he wonders if he's having a heart attack. But then he realizes that the reason is much, much worst.
"You alright?" She asks.
"Yeah, I'm fine."
But he knows that is the farthest from true. He is completely and utterly in love with Felicity Chase.
They dance to the next song, both having the same thoughts. They are head over heels for one another but are too stubborn to ever admit it to the other... even if it eats them alive.
Which made them perfect for each other.
