Charlotte was awakened by the vibrations of her phone in the front pocket of her jeans. She groaned as she tried to sit up, the empty takeout boxes falling off her lap, the TV was still on only now it was playing a silly children’s cartoon that had no relevance to the real world whatsoever. She answered her phone without checking the caller I.D.“Hello?”
“Hey Char! It’s Hailey!” Charlotte winced, Hailey was a little loud in the morning.
“Hey, what can I do for you?”
“You forgot didn’t you?” Hailey accused.
“Forgot what?”
“I’m taking you shopping today for your dress!"
“Why?”
“Because Uncle Derek agreed and you have an off day!”
“How do you know that?” Charlotte asked, too tired to even argue about shopping with Hailey.
“I have my sources. Get ready our car will be at your building in thirty.” She said cheerfully before hanging up.
Charlotte sprang into action, clearing the living room up and switching off the TV, she quickly hopped into the shower and then did her hair and makeup after getting dressed, as she was pulling on her combat boots the buzzer sounded. She quickly let the security guard know that she was on her way down and then wrote a note for Betty before sprinting out of the apartment. Hailey was impatiently waiting in the lobby for her, tapping her foot on the tiled floor and ignoring the annoyed glares the guard was sending her.“There you are! Let’s go we are already late as it is!” She exclaimed and dragged Charlotte through the revolving doors.
“Late for what?” Charlotte asked confused.
“We have an appointment at the Dress Emporium.” Charlotte explained, “They have the nicest assistants who are going to help us find the perfect dress for you!”
“You make it sound as though I’m getting married!” Charlotte muttered.
“One of these days maybe you will be!” Hailey sang, Charlotte shook her head and reluctantly followed Hailey to the car. The car ride to the Emporium was short and once they stopped outside of the store, Charlotte was dragged out by Hailey.
“Appointment under the name ‘Lockheart’ for Veronica.” Hailey said to the woman behind the desk, she typed away on her computer with perfectly manicured hands, she looked up, smiled and then let them know that Veronica would be with them in a moment.“How do you even know my surname?” Charlotte asked surprised and slightly worried.
“I have my ways.”
“Look you need to promise me that you won’t tell anyone about my surname.” Charlotte said frantically grabbing Hailey by the shoulders and looking her in the eye.
“Chill I won’t.”
“Promise me.” Charlotte insisted.
“What’s so bad about a surname Char?”
“I can’t tell you, but it will only lead to trouble, now promise me.”
“I promise.” Hailey said solemnly, a tall Brazilian looking woman dressed in a black pencil skirt and red blouse walked towards them.
“Hailey!” She exclaimed and pulled her into a hug, “How is your mother?” She asked.
“Moms good V and you?” Hailey asked, laughing.
“I’m doing fine, who is your friend?”
“Charlotte. It’s nice to meet you, Veronica?” Charlotte said sticking out her hand which Veronica shook.
