Charlotte clocked out of work and grabbed her bag before leaving through the service entrance; she hailed a cab and tiredly clambered in. New York was still tonight a difference one hardly ever saw; tonight was just one of those nights. People still hustled and bustled along, but everything seemed to be slower. Charlotte sighed, paid the cab driver and greeted Frank as he opened the door for her. The elevator took ages and by the time Charlotte got to the penthouse door she was sleep walking. The penthouse was dark save for the TV light which flashed, an action movie was playing, it was a signal to Charlotte that Tyler was staying over and she sighed once more and put the TV off before going to her room, which was conveniently in the opposite direction of Betty’s room. She had never been as happy about that fact as she was now. Charlotte didn’t even bother to shower, just slipped on cotton shorts and an oversized T-shirt before climbing into bed and letting sleep claim her.
There was a knock on Charlotte’s door and she stirred unwillingly, she wasn’t ready to give up the warmth her bed was providing her with. The knocking continued.“What?” She groaned. The door opened and Betty slipped inside, jumping on the bed.
“Do you want breakfast?” She asked excitedly.
“What’s the time?” Charlotte asked, still half asleep.
“Eleven thirty.” Betty answered.
“Sure, but give me like an hour to wake up.” Charlotte grumbled.
Betty left her and Charlotte grumbled at the fact that now she was wide awake and so she got up to take a shower and get dressed. When she walked out of her room to the kitchen she noticed Tyler with and apron on, standing in front of the stove with a look of concentration on his face.
“So you cook as well.” Charlotte said surprised and slightly amused. Tyler turned and gave her a crooked grin.
“Betty really hasn’t told you anything about me has she?” He said. He seemed a little disappointed when he said it.
“Nope, I didn’t really ask either.” Charlotte said with a shrug, her loose hair was busy annoying her so she tied it up into a messy bun, not caring about her appearance in front of Tyler; in fact she was dressed in track pants and her loose Dirty Dancing shirt with polka dot socks on her feet. Today was Friday, the day of the gala event and Derek would be picking her up at six. To say she was nervous was and understatement.
“Well, I’m a private chef. I cater to the needs of the rich and famous.”
“Have you ever met anyone cool?” Charlotte asked, intrigued by his career.
“Yeah I met Johnny Depp once.”
“Shut up! Really?”
“Yeah, really. He’s pretty chill and quite a nice guy.” Tyler said.
“That is so cool!” Charlotte said.
“Fan of him?” Tyler asked.
Charlotte just looked at him, “Duh! He’s only like the most amazing and versatile actor of this day and age!” She said. Tyler laughed and then went back to flipping the pancakes.
“Can I help with anything?” Charlotte asked.
“Yeah, you could make the filling.” Tyler said. Charlotte hopped up and went to work on the filling as per Tyler’s instructions. He planned savoury pancakes with a salad as it was basically lunch already.
“Glad to see you two are getting along.” Betty said with a genuine expression on her face. Charlotte and Tyler looked at one another before bursting out laughing.
