Chapter 3: I Need To Get Over It...!

I have to manage. It was only a dream, a bad dream. Jack doesn't even know what actually happened to mom and dad. I can't tell him, but when he finds out, he will never forgive me. He'll be heart broken, shattered and upset.

"Emily, are you okay"? "Yes, Jack I'm fine, dont worry. It's best for you to sleep a bit more so when you wake up, you are fresh". I could hear sheila setting the dining table with the dishes. "Em, Jack, come down both of you. It's time for dinner". Me and Jack made our way towards the dining table where Sheila and Rodger were seated. "Come on sit down children", Rodger said, while munching on to his garlic bread. Me and Jack sat next to each other and started eating.

"Okay, Em, could you explain your daily house routine to me sweetie", sheila said while she was also munching on her garlic bread. I hesitated a little, "um, yeah sure, in the morning we get ready and go to school. Them after school we sleep for a little while if we are tired. When we wake up, we finish any pending school work we have. Then at dinner time we eat out dinner and go to bed at 9:00pm sharp". Sheila spoke again, "oh okay, so I guess your routine here will also be the same. The only difference will be that you Em will help me with some pretty easy, simple chores".

I finished my dinner silently without looking at Jack the way I normally do. Jack broke the silence, "Emily, if you've finished, can we go to our room please"? I stood up from my chair and said good night, "good night Sheila, good night Rodger". Sheila spoke while we were walking back towards the room. "Em and Jack, we are now legally your parents. So you now get used to calling us mom and dad".

I was frozen for a moment, thinking that why do we have to give somebody else the status of our parents. I made my mind up, even if I call them mom and dad, they will be able to be my real parents, no matter what. I said something before I left from there, "okay mom. Bye dad".

As those words departed my mouth, my heart was sinking down and down. I was crying. I miss my mom and I miss my dad. Jack crawled across to my bed and gave me a hug. "Emily, don't worry, we will soon get out of this evil house". Soon we both fell asleep.

Mom came in my dreams: "Em baby, how are you sweetheart. I miss you so much. "Mom, where did you go"? "Just think I went so you and your brother could get a better life honey". "But mom, Jack cries for you. I can't see him like that". "Sweetie, all I'm going to say to you before I leave is, this is now your house, this is now your family, this is where you have to find your happiness and fulfil your dreams. Just forget that me and your father were ever a part of your life. Just get over it baby".

After I heard those 5 words, I woke up. It was midnight. I was feeling very restless. I went to the kitchen to have some water. I came back to my room. I checked on Jack to see if he was okay. Soon I fell asleep again.
