You always had to enter with the rest of the crowd at concerts. Look like a fan, sit in a seat unreserved for family and friends. Today was no different, you waited in line and smiled to yourself as you watched the anxiously excited people wait, take photos for social media and share stories about how "Hozier saved them," and as the line slowly moved forward you fiddled with your phone which always held a ticket for each concert, should you be in the same city and wish to go. Finally, you reached the front and saw a familiar face.
"Why hello Dan," you grinned at the security guard. He worked in many venues Andrew toured. He traveled with his wife in an RV to see the country. A sweet older man, his eyes lit up and crinkled as he smiled.
"Hello pretty thing, I was wondering when I'd see you. Where have you been hiding?"
You laugh as he checks your bag and you press your phone in his hands. He always knew you'd have a ticket, but you needed others to see you did too."Oh you know, busy with work."
"Ah yes, I couldn't manage and produce like you do, too tiring."
You laugh again and turn to see people beginning to stare.
Time to move before I look too familiar.
"Well send my love to Marj, and you take care."
Dan winks and then uses his raised hand to usher the next person forward.
Following the masses you enter the stadium your seat is in the 3rd row from the pit and next to the control booth for the stage manager and crew. After a small wave from the tech person and a glance from Andrew's head of security. You ask a question.
"Excuse me, sir," you ask as if you have just met.
"Yes ma'am," the guard responds smiling. This was a routine.
"Is traffic bad after these shows at the venue," you smile.
"It is ma'am do you plan to leave early?" he asks.
"Well, if you say it's difficult to navigate perhaps I should stay."
He smiles wider at this and nods, "That's fine for tonight, I can write down a good place for you to sit while you wait out the rush."
"That would be amazing, thank you"
"Anytime," he replies and quickly hands you a small map of the venue with a circle marking the side rows close to the stage. An area close to a public restroom which probably had a bench to look as if you were waiting your turn to go.
"Enjoy the show, first time?" he asks.
"Oh, yes," you wink. He waves and heads down from the booth and disappears into the crowd in the same direction from the map. In which the greenroom and back of the stage were a few paces up.
You take a seat and turn your phone on DND while two teenage girls find theirs next to you. One has blonde hair and the other brunette, looking beautiful in a sort of clean gothic way. Most people dressed as if they were in the woods or how fall felt, but these girls wore all black, and their dresses had flowy ruffles like Persephone's nymphs may have in the underworld. This was one of your favorite lools you'd seen. You kept it simple with a coffee brown turtle neck and a black ankle-length skirt that hugged your legs. Simple small hoops and hair slicked back in a low bun with your curtain bangs framing your face.
The lights began to dim and the crowd erupted. That was always surprising to hear. How much they loved him, you had been in their shoes just a few years ago. Before you met him through work. The opener came and performed, beautifully, and now it was time for Hozier.
