Sleeplessness

You can't sleep.
You don't know why.
Try counting sheep,
Or dream you can fly.

What's keeping you up?
Your kid that likes to cry?
Things in the night that go 'bump'.
Or the train that rumbles by.

Doesn't matter what you do.
You just keep tossing and turning.
Your dog is barking at you.
The one beside you snores until your ears start burning.

Sleep won't come.
You're up all night.
You head is numb.
Giving up this fight.

The mattress has failed you.
Look at the time.
It's morning and you feel blue.
Losing sleep should be a crime.
