Chapter 8

It had been a few days since Julian had seen Xavier. Emery had other work and he was busy with more prominent matter. Every morning since, Emery allowed Julian to make breakfast with Selene. If he wasn't with Emery, he was in the kitchen with Selene like a lost puppy dog. Julian wasn't sure whether Xavier had approved the situation, but he wasn't going to question Emery. He'd simply throw him under the bus if it came down to it.

Selene sits on a stool next to Julian. As he  neads dough in front of him Selene chats his ear off, fanning herself with a spare piece of cardboard she had ripped off of a box after unloading boxes into the pantry.

That is the scene Emery has when he walks into the kitchen to retrieve Julian. The younger omega smiles at the older one who returns it. Emery takes a seat next to Selene and pops a berry from a near by bowl into his mouth.

"I've got exciting news for you Julian."

"The king has decided to end my misery?" He gets a smack on the back of his head from Selene.

"Personally, I think it'll just add to the misery," Emery mumbles before clasping his hands and exclaiming, "you get to train! Starting today!"

"Wait, seriously?" The dough drops from his hands and onto the counter with a thunk. He turns to Emery with hope growing in the pit of his stomach. They're giving him a chance.

When Emery confirms that Julian heard correctly, he practically flings his apron across the room as he marches to the door. Emery is left to scramble after him with a laughing Selene left to her own devices. Julian races into his workout clothes before skipping to the training grounds.

"You are way too excited for this," Emery says as they wonder down the sloap and up to Michael. He's drilling a group, but stops and makes his way over when he sees the two of them at the edge of the area.

Julian is practically jumping on his toes with sheer anticipation and Michael mirrors the excitment as he bounces over. "Yay! It's my turn with the rogue!"

"Your turn?" Emery questions.

Michael pouts at him. "First you and then Selene. I'm the head warrior, I should have gotten to babysit him before Selene."

"Chaperone, not babysit." Julian is ignored.

Emery pats both of their shoulders at the same time before walking backwards the way they had come. "He's all yours, buddy."

"You're not stayin?" Michael hollers.

Emery shouts back, "not scheduled for training today and you know my take on training."

Michael fist bumps the air and turns to Julian for a high five. Julian has to jump to high five his extended hands that hang in the air. The two grin at each other. "This is gonna be so fun."

Before Julian could join everyone else, Michael insisted on showing him around the training grounds in excruciating detail. It wasn't a bad thing, but Julian is definitely the learn as you go kind of person. So much information at once is pointless for him. It goes in one ear and out the other until he has experienced it himself.

But he played along until it was time to join everyone for training. He zeroes into everything that is being said and shown now. Some of the more experienced warriors show examples and walk the field giving critique with Michael. Those who aren't sparring sit on the sides of the squares painted out on the grass. They watch the people fighting in front of them, taking in what they see and the corrections given. After this they will work on wolf form fighting.
