Currently James was sat in his seat in potions, a few minutes early for once. He was stood lazily leaning on Remus and Peters desk, chatting to Sirius and the boys while he spun his wand around his fingers absentmindedly.
He snapped his head up when he heard the door swing open abruptly, revealing two Slytherins chatting as they walked into the classroom. Regulus Black and Dorcas Meadowes. The girl smiled as she scanned the room and quickly walked over to Marlene, who was waving her over eagerly.
James watched as Regulus rolled his eyes with a sigh and slid into his desk, quickly pulling out his book and flicking his eyes down. James was clearly staring for a bit too long because Remus nudged him discreetly and raised an eyebrow, to which the brunette shrugged and flicked his gaze back down to the table.
After a few moments he spoke up. "I'm gonna- uh. Sit down, class is about to start." He spoke quickly and swiftly stepped away from the group and sitting himself right in front of Regulus. The younger boy payed him no attention, just keeping his eyes glued to his book. James felt a need to get his attention so he loudly cleared his throat and balanced his chin on the palm of his hand.
Regulus tilted his head up slightly to look at James. "Hey?" He said with a confused look.
"Hi." James spoke with a smile.
Regulus hummed in response as he turned his gaze back down to his book, he seemed distracted, his grey eyes flicked along the pages quickly as he played with his rings - which James took a very obvious notice to.
James dropped his chin onto the table with a but more force than he intended, making a loud bang and cursing under his breath. "I'm sorry is there something you want?" Regulus said as he looked anywhere but James' face, or his hands, or really just him.
"To talk."
"You have friends over there who would be a lot more willing to talk to you James."
"But you are my friend!"
"Am I?" Regulus spoke with a sceptical tone to his voice.
