"Vyn? I think we are lost." My words came out with a little frown as I looked at the map in my hands. "I'm pretty sure we should have pass by the massive oak you were talking about before. It seems silly to me anyway. One big leafy tree in a forest full of conifers." My eyes rolled as I spoke with lightened voice.
"The first half of the forest is coniferous, yes, but the closer we are to the lake, the more it will mix with deciduous trees until it becomes a deciduous forest."
Well, okay that was one interesting thing. How could I be surprised. This is completely different world than the one I grew up in. "Just admit we are lost." My grin stretched as I provoke him. The annoyed look on his face was making it even better. I stopped grinning the moment I saw the first leaves on the ground in the moss. My gaze turned toward Vyn that was no smirking and snickering.
"Okay fine you were right we are not lost." I grumbled while glaring at him.
"It will still take us few hours until we get to the lake." My arms stretched up with a bored yawn. Our legs didn't stop moving. We had our own tempo, so we didn't need any breaks.
"Hey Vyn." My voice took a glint of seriousness as I heard some weird noises around us. "Do you hear it too?" My words came out with hard swallow as I spotted two big golem like creatures around us. My hand grabbed onto Vyn squeezing hard. He just smiled at me placing his hand onto mine.
"Don't worry they are not dangerous." His smile calmed me down as I looked at them stretching to almost 6 meters tall. Each of them had different eyes. Their eyes were shining colorful crystals. One of them had red crystals and the other one blue. With each ray of sun falling onto them the crystals shined beautifully and became almost see-trough but still kept their color. My eyes trailed down to explore their character.
Something else caught my eye. In the center of their chest was a heart made of crystal of the same color that reflected the rainbow in the various shades that appeared on each small surface of water. It was absolutely charming.
Parts of their bodies were protected by beautiful green moss that grew freely on them as if they had their own ecosystem. Roots lay and grew into every crevice between the stony surface of their bodies. At first, they looked dangerous, but when we looked at them now, they looked so gentle having butterflies sitting at their finger and stony horns.
As they walked around us, they didn't even attempt to hurt us. Like we were no threat.
"These are called guardians. Each place has their own guardians. Forest guardians are gentle creatures. Until you attack them first or attack the forest, you have nothing to worry about."
I still looked at them passing by with my lips slightly parted in amazement.
"But don't get carried away. Not all guardians are like that. Sea guardians are probably the most dangerous one.
they have a habit of attacking immediately to protect their underwater ruins and coral reefs. daredevils who set out on an underwater expedition are pulled down by their tentacles into underwater caves or crevices. not only do you lose oxygen underwater, but it also suffocates you with its firm grip. And that's not to mention their poisonous tentacle spines. Only few faes survived contact with them.
"You know remind me to never step my foot into the sea." I joked but cold sweat ran down my spine. Just the thought being slowly drowned and suffocated by massive thing with tentacles made the blood in my veins run cold.
"Don't worry we will be avoiding sea well. We have nothing to do anywhere close look." His hands reached for the map once again as he pointed out all the places we will go. He was right we will be avoiding sea well.
