Soraya's POV

Finally, it's the weekend and nothing excites me more than getting uninterrupted sleep and freedom from the confines of school. No more enduring lengthy classes or the complains of teachers about students academic performances, which I can never relate to anyway. As I start to enjoy the comfort of my bed, my mother's voice pierces through the air.

"Soraya! wake up and come downstairs to do your chores!" Mom announces, loud enough to wake the dead. Groaning, I struggle to get out of my soft and comfortable bed but I make it out anyway. Walking to the bathroom, I quickly wash my face and brush my teeth and head downstairs.

"Good morning my love," Mom greets, as she walks up to me, placing a kiss on my forehead. "Morning mom," I reply, rubbing my eyes off the sleep that refuses to leave. "Mom seriously, it's only 8am," I complain as I slump into the couch.

"Yes yes. I know you love your weekend naps but my boss just called me for something urgent so I have to rush to the hospital now," she explains as she paces up and down picking up her belongings and stuffing it into her handbag. "Where did I put these keys?" she mumbles to herself as she scans the room.

Oh shoot! I have the car keys in my room.

"Um mom I think I saw it in your room last night on your bedside table," I lie. "Really? But I didn't see it there," she responds but still goes ahead to check. I quickly rush to my room to get the car keys and rush back down only to find my mom staring daggers at me with her arms crossed over her chest.

"Soraya I've told you time and time again not to use the car. You don't have a license yet and if you're to get caught by the police, I promise there'll be no bail for you. Trust me to leave you there." She adds.

Oh wow.

"Mom you know you can't live without me," I tease, as I give her a hug. A smile tugs on her lips and I hand over the keys to her. "Sure. You're free to think whatever you want," she nonchalantly says. "Okay so I need you to do the laundry and get groceries as well. You know where I keep the money. I have to rush now. I love you sweetie."

"I love you too mom," she hurries out the door, sits in her black toyota corolla and speeds off.

I grab my phone and text Bella. Bella is my bestfriend and only friend if I'm being honest. We've been friends for a very long time. We met when we were five so you can imagine how close we are. At this point you can say we are sisters. She has always been there for me even more than I have. I couldn't have asked for a better friend.

Me: Goodmorning sleepy head

Bella: Why are you awake so early?

Me: Mom woke me up. She had to rush to the hospital and left me with chores :(

Bella: Oh I see why you're texting me now. I'll be there in 30 minutes

Me: You're the best ! Love youuu

Bella: Ewww byee

I chuckle at her silly reply and make some breakfast for both of us before she gets here. I toast some bread and fry scrambled eggs accompanied by freshly squeezed orange juice, and set it on the dining table before going to take a shower.

I put on a pink tank top with jean shorts and put my hair in a low bun when I suddenly hear the doorbell. "Bella must be here," I quickly get to the door and let her in. "Welcome bestie!" I say, enveloping her in a tight hug.

"Jeez girl. Do you want to crash my bones?" she ask, shaking her head. "You're acting like you didn't see me at school yesterday," she adds as she walks in. I laugh and shut the door close.

Bella is a tall, dark skin, gorgeous girl. Her natural hair is neatly styled into a low bun, with her edges flawlessly slicked down.

"Made breakfast," I say. "Ouuuu look who is being a productive girl this morning," I playfully roll my eyes at her silly statement. We both sit down and devour our meal as we chit chat about random topics. We finish up and as promised, Bella helps me with the chores. We then step out to go get the groceries which is ten minutes away from my house and we return to catch a movie. We watch Damsel on Netflix and I must say it was really good. I'll give it a solid 8 out of 10.

It's already afternoon and we are starving again but suddenly the door bell rings so I go ahead to open the door. "Hey mom. How was the meeting?" I inquire, helping her with her handbag.

"Well I really don't know how you're going to feel about it," she says and sighs.

"Good afternoon Ms Hammond," Bella greets and mom responds, hugging her. "Good afternoon my dear. How have you been?"

"Good," Bella replies.

"Mom you were saying something right now," I interrupt them, eager to know what it is my mom was talking about.

"Yes sweetie so um there's an issue," she says. "I have been transferred. We have to move to a different city," she concludes.

My heart skips a beat when mom finally breaks the news. It can't be. I've spent my whole life here and now I have to leave? I don't know how I'm going to start afresh and it terrifies me. With my mom being a nurse, somewhere in the back of my head I always knew she might get transferred but since it never happened, I totally got it out of mind only to be hit by this news when I least expect it.

"Ms Hammond you can't take my best friend away from me," Bella pouts as she holds unto my arm.

"I'm so sorry Bella but there's nothing I can do. The pay is better and I also got a higher position over there. And we need the extra money if I'm being honest. Besides you guys just got into form 3 and you'll be completing in a few months to come. You can go to university together," Mom explains.

"I understand Ms Hammond," Bella says. "Soraya, I think your mom is right. We'll be done with school in a minute," she adds and I nod.

"Okay mom, that's fine but which city are we moving to?" I inquire. "Oh it's Kofran City and I was even thinking of enrolling you in Bella's former school. Horizon Heights Academy if I'm correct. Right Bella?" Mom ask.

Bella and I have shocked expressions on our faces as we turn to look at each other at the same time.
