Nathan's POV

On Saturdays, Natalie, Henry and I host games night. We usually keep it low key, inviting just a few people to join us. This time, we are holding it at Henry's house since his dad is working late. We normally play video games, spin the bottle, truth or dare, board games or just watch a movie — usually something funny or scary. It's always a good time.

"Micah's party is wild tonight. Abena keeps flooding the school group chat with pictures and videos," Henry tells us about it, while I'm in the middle of a FIFA match with the other guys. The girls decided to watch a rom-com this night and are in one of the rooms, having a slumber party or whatever.

"I've thrown better parties," I brag to Henry, and he knows it's true.

"Hell yeah you have," he agrees. "But since the term started, you haven't thrown any parties, Nathan. You're letting Micah steal the spotlight, bro. We used to throw the best parties and we need to get back on top."

"Chill man, I got it all covered," I assure him. We're about to throw the biggest party to ever exist in Horizon heights very soon," I inform Henry and the others who cheer me on.

"I know, bro." Let him think he's won for now. Then we'll crash him when he least expect it," Henry says, his lips curling into an evil grin.

"Oh, you know Soraya attended his party?" Henry tells me, and I immediately put down my controller, not caring about the game anymore.

"What did you just say? I thought you told me she and Natalie were kind of cool now, so why would she go to that jerk's party?" I ask, annoyed.

"Bro, I'm sorry but I don't have answers to these heavy questions," he says jokingly.

I pull out my phone and go straight to the school group chat where Abena's still posting pictures and videos. I scroll through the post, looking for Soraya, and finally see a picture of her and Abena, both holding up drinks and taking a selfie.

Why does she look so happy? Did she meet Micah? Why do I even care? Ugh!

"How did she even know about Micah?" I ask, my frustration growing as Henry stays focused on the game.

"Um... probably because he's a student?" he responds without looking up.

"Bro, you know what I mean, quit playing with me," I say, feeling irritated.

"You're acting like a jealous boyfriend Nathan. Is there something you're not telling me?" Henry inquires, raising his eyebrows and giving me a teasing smile.

"You know what? I don't even care." I put my phone down and pick up my controller to continue with my game, trying to brush off the whole thing. But I can feel the anger lingering, no matter how much I try to concentrate on the game.

Natalie comes downstairs with a face masks on, looking thoroughly vexed. All the boys burst out laughing at her hilarious mask and angry face.

I just know she wants to drag all the girls home. Natalie isn't a fan of big groups, and although she's trying to loosen up and have a little bit of fun, it doesn't seem like it's working tonight.

"All they do is talk about hot boys they are never actually going to have," she complains, as she sits between Henry and I, grabbing the spare controller.

"I mean, what happened to talking about world peace huh?" she says, sounding exasperated. I chuckle, shaking my head. "Nobody wants to talk about that, silly." I reply, knowing she'd rather debate on how climate change is the greatest threat facing humanity today than gossip about high school crushes.

"Why don't you invite your new friend?" I ask, referring to Soraya.

"She's at Micah's party. I feel like it's kind of my fault that she went because I sort of went off yesterday and told her to go," Natalie explains. "It's actually Abena's fault. You know she doesn't know when to stop talking," she adds, and I nod continuously in understanding.

"I don't know, Nathan, but I feel really comfortable around Soraya. She seems genuinely nice, and I think she'd be fun," Natalie says thoughtfully.

"I agree with you Natalie," Henry chimes in.

I feel that way too. Maybe...
