Leafy hadn't been to a school event in forever.
The university often had events like these to try and spark some sort of happiness before the impending doom of finals. For Leafy, they never seemed to work.
She stood in the dull, dead field, surrounded by shaded booths and talking students. A light dusting of snow coated the grass, but the heat of bodies of all the people at the event had warmed up the area to where the snow had melted in some patches.
She scoffed. It was only the start of December, and it was already snowing? The seasons seemed to be changing faster than she could keep up. How did the days seem so long, but the years so short...?
God. She wished she was hibernating.
Her eyes searched the crowds mingling around the booths. She spied one booth giving out cookies.
Random Acts of Kindness Club. The cookies interested her. She pondered if she was allowed to go up and snag one without having to sign up for the club.
But the crowd surrounding the booth was enough to turn her off from the suggestion.
Crowds weren't really her thing, because groups of people were generally, well, annoying.
When she was younger, she was extremely extroverted. She would have gone into that crowd and mingled.
Well, she was still extroverted.
Just tired.
Yet, here she was right now, at Goiky University's club event. She wasn't really part of any clubs. If she were honest, she didn't think she had the capability to handle participating in any clubs. Schoolwork took up most of her time anyway.
She was honestly here because of the free food.
Leafy loved free shit, especially food. Free food meant she didn't have to get dinner tonight.
Unfortunately, that meant she had some sort of moral obligation to sign up for a club. Could she handle being in a club next semester? She couldn't even handle her finals this semester.
Remembering her final exams was the last thing she wanted to do.
She groaned quietly, remembering that finals were literally next week, and she was still extremely unprepared for her Vertebrate Biology final. She didn't even remember all the phylums, orders, and whatnots she had to memorize. She made a mental note to study for that again later.
She should have dropped the damn class.
"Did you want to look over there?" Firey asked her, standing a little off ways from her.
She had forgotten Firey was with her.
She turned and looked at him, and followed to where he was pointing. He was pointing in the directions of the science clubs, which did pique her interest.
"Oh, sure," Leafy said, her voice dry for some reason. She felt a little bad for forgetting about Firey, but tried to forget it. She glanced back at the Random Acts of Kindness booth. Her voice lowered to a whisper, as if she were guilty. "Can you get me a cookie first?"
Firey blinked, and searched the crowds. "Where are they?"
The greenhaired girl meekly lifted a finger and pointed in the direction of the cookies.
Firey followed her finger, and hurried into the crowd to retrieve a cookie for her.
Leafy watched his figure disappear into the swarms of people, passively thinking about how well Firey would suit that club. He was always doing stuff for her.
