Chapter 10

Sophie's POV:

I sit at Sarah's kitchen counter, telling her about my weekend with Chris. "We keep saying it's not forever but eventually we're gonna have to make some sacrifices if we wanna live closer to each other" I explain followed by a sigh. "What would you be willing to sacrifice?" she asks and it reminds me of the idea I thought of when with Chris. I remain silent because it's a crazy idea but Sarah knows me better than I know myself. "I know that face. What are you thinking?" she questions, dropping everything she's doing to watch me and I sigh in defeat.

"I thought of an idea but I need you to tell me how crazy it is" I state defeatedly. "Why? What idea?" she asks, clearly intrigued. "I know that the company I work at has a branch in Boston. I could see if there's a way for me to transfer there or at least get an interview there and I could move to Boston. Brooklyn hasn't felt like home since my parents died but the only thing here that I don't wanna leave... is you" I explain, fully convinced it's crazy to move to Boston completely. But is it? The only things keeping me here are work and Sarah. "Are you kidding? That's not a crazy idea!" she exclaims happily. "Seriously?" I question, still not completely convinced this is a good plan.

"Of course. Just think about how happy Chris makes you now. Then think about how happy you could be if you eliminated the distance" she explains, forcing me to come the realisation. "Well, when you put it like that it doesn't sound so crazy. But I couldn't leave you and I would never ask you to come with me. Your life is here too" I argue. I can't imagine my life without her, she's been there for me through everything. She's the reason I got through the loss of my parents. "Babe, I would gladly move to Boston with you. We could finally live together" she states excitedly and her smile is almost contagious. "But Sarah, your life is here. Your job" I can't believe how easily she's agreed to move with me. "I hate my job. I've been trying to build up the courage to quit for months, you've just given me the perfect reason. There's nothing else here for me. You're my only family, the same way I'm your family. Plus, we've always wanted to be roommates" she argues and I find it incredibly difficult to argue with her on that.

"Ok... so, we're moving to Boston?" I ask slowly, a small smile starting spread across my face. "Yeah" she nods, rushing around to hug me tightly. "You were supposed to tell me I'm crazy" I state with a laugh. "But you're not. You're in love" she smiles and I hug her again, happy she's willing to do this for me.

The following week consisted of sorting through our things, deciding what's worth keeping and what to leave behind. Sarah quit her job and started looking for jobs in Boston. My boss managed to arrange my transfer, thankfully the Boston branch had an opening in my department. We also looked for 2-bedroom apartments in Boston and we found one within our budget but didn't feel comfortable getting it without seeing it. That's why I'm currently calling Scott.

His face finally appears on the screen and I smile in relief. "Sophie, how are you?" he asks with a cheerful smile. "I'm good. I have a favour to ask" I reply, getting straight to the point. "I'm intrigued, what's up?" he asks with a raised eyebrow. "How good are you at keeping secrets?" I ask as Sarah sits beside me, eager to know if he can help. "I am an excellent secret keeper" he answers smugly and I chuckle. "Great. I'm planning on surprising Chris but I need your help with something" I explain and he nods for me to continue. "I'm moving to Boston, but he doesn't know yet so please don't tell him" I continue and his face lights up at the news.

"Oh my gosh, Sophie. He's gonna be so happy. The distance has been killing him and I know he hasn't let you see the full extent. He'll love this surprise. How can I help?" he answers eagerly and I choose to focus on his help than dwell on Chris not telling me how much the distance has been affecting him. "Well, me and Sarah found a 2-bed that we're interested but we wanna make sure it's good. Would you be willing to go view it for us?" I ask hopefully and he instantly starts nodding. "Of course I can. Do you want me to facetime you while I'm there?" he asks and Sarah and I start nodding, causing him to chuckle. "Ok, no problem. Text me the details and I'll be there" he concludes with a smile. "Oh my gosh. Scott, thank you so much. We owe you" I state happily. "Yeah, thank you Scott. I like you already" Sarah adds with a smile and Scott chuckles. "No problem ladies, and don't worry, I won't say a word to anyone" he replies happily.

Less than a week later, the apartment is ours, my start date at work in Boston is 2 weeks away and Sophie has interviews lined up for our first week in Boston. "How are you feeling?" Sarah asks me after we place our final bags by my front door. Sarah is staying with me tonight, since it was easier for her move out of her apartment yesterday due to her tenancy. "I'm excited" I smile, eager to get to Boston and Sarah only smiles back at me. We've filled my car with everything we're taking and we'll be driving there tomorrow, making it a 4-hour road trip. It's easier than checking all our luggage onto a plane, plus I need my car.

The following morning we're on the road, our favourite music blasting and the satnav leading the way to our new address. The journey didn't feel as long as it was and before we know it, we're carrying our luggage up to our apartment. "Ok now that that's everything, go" Sarah orders sternly and I stare at her a little surprised. "Go. Drive to Chris' and surprise him" she elaborates and I smile at her. I've wanted to do that since we got here but I thought I'd better unload the car first. "Thank you" I hug her tightly before rushing to the car and heading to Chris' place.
