Sophie's POV:
I take the coffee cup from the barista, ready for my walk through Boston. My first day. I settled into my hotel room after my flight and decided I wanted to start my trip with a walk. I turn to exit the coffee shop when I walk straight into someone. My head collides with their chest and I almost fall backwards completely. Thankfully, they reach out and catch my arms before I fall and hold me steady.
"Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry" I apologise instantly as I look up and meet a pair of ocean blue eyes. A man in a Nasa hat, jeans and a white t-shirt stands in front of me, his hands still resting on my hands. "It's ok, don't worry. Are you ok?" he smiles at me before letting me go. "Yeah, I'm ok. Again, I'm sorry" I reply with an apologetic smile. "It's ok. I'm Chris" he smiles. "I'm Sophie" I smile.
Chris and I end up sitting together in the coffee shop, chatting and getting to know each other. He's actually a very nice and funny person. "So why did you choose Boston as your vacation spot?" he asks after I tell him I'm here on vacation. "That's kind of a long story but I've wanted to visit Boston since I was young. I figured now was as good a time as any to come, I thought it'd have what I need" I answer, avoiding give certain details. "What do you need?" he asks, intrigued. His question catches me off guard and I sigh deeply, unsure of how to answer it, or even whether to answer it all.
I must've taken a while to respond and he realised it was a difficult question for me to answer because he quickly apologised. "I'm sorry. We just met, you don't have to answer that" he assures me, making me smile. "It's ok, that's just a difficult question to answer right now" I reply with a kind smile and we continue to talk about other stuff. We spend hours talking before we decide on a walk. He walks me through Boston, showing me different areas that are popular for tourists but also some places that are unknown to tourists and were incredibly quiet.
Eventually, we decide to go our separate ways since we've been talking for hours and we both needed to head home. But before we say goodbye, Chris asks for my number. I hesitate at first because I only recently left Jake and that wound still feels very fresh but Chris has been so easy to talk to and he's so incredibly kind and I would like to see him again. So I give him my number and promise to text him when I get to my hotel safely.
Once I get to my hotel room, I send Chris the text I promised and he replies almost instantly.
Sophie: Back at the hotel, safe and sound
Chris: Good. I had a really great time today. Meet again soon?
Sophie: Me too. I'd love to
Chris: Dinner?
Sophie: Sounds lovely
Chris: What about tomorrow night? 7?
Sophie: I don't have any plans. Where shall I meet you?
Chris: I'll pick you up
Sophie: Ok, can't wait
Chris: Me neither
I smile at my phone, feeling very excited about dinner tomorrow. I open my messages with Sarah, letting her know I can facetime whenever she's ready and less than 30 minutes later she's calling me. "Hey, how was your first day?" she asks excitedly, settling on her couch. "It was really great. I met someone and spent most of the day with them" I reply with a smile. "Oh my gosh. Who? Was it a guy? Is he hot? Are you going to see him again? Please tell me you're going to see him again" she responds eagerly with all her question and I have to laugh at her excitement. "His name is Chris and yes, he is hot. Very hot actually. But he's also very sweet and kind and funny. He showed me around Boston a little and then asked for my number. Admittedly, I was reluctant at first because of everything with Jake but I said yes and we've arranged to have dinner tomorrow night" I summarise for her before I suddenly realise. "Oh my gosh! Sarah, you need to help me pick an outfit! I don't think I packed anything particularly fancy. I might need to go shopping tomorrow" I ramble as I clamber to my closet to look at my clothes, moving my laptop so that she can still see me.
"Sophie, babe, you need to relax. I'll help you pick something but first, how are you feeling about this? I mean, you said you were reluctant because of Jake so why did you give him your number? Why'd you agree to dinner? Not that I'm not happy for you, I just want to make sure you're ok" she states, causing me to relax a little. "I hesitated because I thought of Jake. It's all still a little fresh, you know? But I knew I wanted to see him again so I agreed and then when he asked me to dinner I didn't really think, I just said yes. I think I'll have to at least tell him that I've recently gone through a breakup and just see how he takes that. What do you think?" I explain while also thinking out loud. I don't want what happened with Jake to stop me from meeting anyone or dating again. But there's also the fact that I'm only here for 2 weeks. "I think that you deserve to be happy and you seem really excited about this but I know how much you appreciate honesty, especially after Jake. So I think if you'd feel more comfortable telling him about the breakup then you should" she assures me and I have to smile because she knows me so well. She can read me like an open book, sometimes I don't even need to say anything and she knows.
"Thank you. Now help me pick an outfit" I plead as I stand back up and open my closet, ready to find the perfect outfit for tomorrow.
