Chapter 26 - Blood Boiling

"Malta," I heard Amber's furious voice, and I reluctantly opened my eyes to see her towering over me. What a way to wake up.

I turned my head expecting Pavi to still be fast asleep next to me, I was surprised to find him missing. Had he spilled the beans about the suspected pregnancy to Amber?

"Good morning, Amber," I said, attempting a smile despite my exhaustion.

"Don't 'good morning' me," she scoffed, maintaining her intimidating stance. "Pavi told me everything."

She pulled a pregnancy test out of her pocket and threw it at me. It smacked me in the face, instantly jolting me completely awake.

"Take it right now," she commanded, moving towards the bathroom door and opening it. "I should have kept a closer eye on you. I should have made you take those pills in front of me."

"Really, Amber?" I felt my patience wearing thin, tired of her nonsense. I was on the verge of exploding. She had thrown me to the wolves yesterday, so she had no grounds to stand on.

"Really, Malta. I ask for so little, and yet you always find ways to screw everything up," she gestured for me to go to the bathroom.

I stood up, my anger simmering just beneath the surface. Grabbing the pregnancy test from where it had landed on the bed, I made my way to the bathroom, determined not to let Amber see me break. Closing the door behind me, I took a deep breath and stared at the test in my hand.

I already knew what the result would be. The signs had been there, but I had been avoiding facing the truth. Slowly, I followed the instructions on the test and waited for the inevitable outcome. The minutes dragged on, feeling like hours as I tried to steady my nerves.

When the time was up, I looked down at the test, my hands trembling. Positive. The word glared back at me, confirming my worst fears. A cocktail of emotions washed over me - fear, confusion, uncertainty. What was I going to do? The signs pointed to either Pavi or Grave Robber, but I didn't even know Grave Robber's real name, and Pavi was a loose cannon.

The urge to vomit hit me again, and I felt like absolute garbage. Just as I started retching into the toilet bowl, Amber burst into the bathroom.

She snatched the test out of my hands, sighing in defeat.

"Malta, you've really messed things up," she said, watching me vomit. "Couldn't you have just kept your legs closed, or remembered to take your damn pill?"

I raised my head to look at her, done with putting up with her crap. I had a plan to follow, but I couldn't contain my anger any longer.

"Maybe your brother should have kept it in his pants," I snapped. Pavi had lured me in with Zydrate, even though I was meant for his brother.

Amber's eyes widened in shock, and I could see the anger building up inside her as she clenched her fists.

"How dare you," she hissed through gritted teeth, yanking on my hair and forcing my head backward. "You have no idea what you're talking about."

"I know exactly what I'm talking about," I responded looking up at her, my voice steady despite the turmoil within me. "Your brother Pavi is the one who got me into this mess. He's to blame. Maybe you should take a good look at him before blaming me."

Amber's face turned red with rage, her eyes burning with fury. I could tell she was struggling to control her emotions, searching for a comeback.

"Who knows how many men you've been with since your surgery? You're a filthy whore," Amber snickered, yanking my hair again, this time causing me to crash onto the cold bathroom tiles. I wasn't going to tolerate her nonsense any longer. Blood dripped from my mouth.
