remember how I'd fly to you

August 1st

As promised, her jet touched down in Kansas City a few minutes before midday, and she was so jittery and excited. She wasn't quite as nervous as she had expected to feel, which made her feel very comfortable about being with Travis - He just wasn't the type of person to ever make anyone feel anxious or uncomfortable around him.

She stepped off the plane and walked straight into the car waiting on the tarmac for her. She had rented a different jet and hiding her face under mask and an uncomfortably-warm hoodie, she hoped that nobody would be able to recognize her here. Sitting in the car, waiting for her security to bring her suitcase, she texted Travis.

Tay: See you sooooooon!!!!

Tay: I'm so excited I literally can't sit still

He read the message and replied immediately.

Trav: SEE YOU SO SOON BEAUTIFUL!!!!!

Eventually, Taylor's driver started in the direction of the address Travis had sent her and Google Maps told her they were 20 minutes away. Great, she thought, 20 minutes to panic.

Travis had cleaned the kitchen and the bathrooms, made up a spare bedroom for her, put a bottle of red wine in the fridge, neatened everything away and vacuumed. Twice. Once Taylor texted him to let him know she'd landed, he was pretty sure the house was spotless, but now it seemed to be missing a bit of character.

Flowers! Why hadn't he thought to get flowers?!

She told him she'd be at his house in 20 minutes, so he ran out to his car, knowing there was a florist only 3 minutes away. That would give him enough time to get the flowers, get home and find a vase to put them into.

He assumed roses would be a bit much, so he found the prettiest pink tulips, drove back home, and put them into a glass vase with 10 minutes still to spare.

He leaned against the kitchen bench, staring at his phone to pass the time, until he heard 2 knocks at the door. Trusting that he looked okay, he left his phone on the bench and walked over to let her inside.

He opened the door and she was there, really truly there. Standing with her head tilted to the side a bit, in white shorts and a soft pink singlet. Her suitcase was sitting beside her and Travis was vaguely aware of the 2 men standing at her car, but didn't think much of them.

"Hi Tay, I'm so glad you're here," He said, shyly, cautiously moving in to hug her.

Luckily, she wasn't so shy, and basically jumped to hug him. "Hey Travis, I can't believe I'm finally here. Is it weird that I feel like I've missed you? Even though, you know." She rambled, and he just chuckled against her hair, only now realize how much shorter than him she was.

They both knew that the hug was bordering on too long for their first ever meeting, so they let go of each other and Travis let her inside. As he reached forward to take her suitcase for her, he noticed the men by the car again.

"Are they your security, babe?"

She immediately seemed embarrassed and Travis couldn't understand why. "Oh, uh yeah, I'm so sorry. I know it's a pain for them to be here. I just kind of can't go anywhere without them." She stared at her feet. She had asked a few days ago whether her security could stay in Travis' house and he assured her that it was completely fine, but he was noticing that it seemed to be a big insecurity for her that they were there.

"Tay, it's not an issue, I promise, baby. I got a few rooms ready for them. Can I meet them?" Travis didn't want them to feel uncomfortable, and honestly, he felt like it would be really weird for them to be staying in his house without even knowing him.

"Yeah, of course. They're all great," Taylor far-too-naturally took his hand and led him to her car. "This is Greg and this is Ahmed," she pointed, and both guys smiled and shook Travis' hand, both saying "Hey man, nice to meet you."

"I have over 40 people in my security team in total, and I usually have 4 of the guys with me, but I figured I won't really need them when I'm with you." Travis smiled and gripped her hand a little tighter for a moment, getting butterflies over her trust in him to keep her safe. "But it is a lot, like, I don't wanna scare you away in our first 2 minutes together but... There's a reason it takes 40 people to keep me safe, Trav."

He understood the magnitude of what she was telling him, but he didn't really know how to reason, so he just nodded and held her hand a little tighter, and turned to her security. "Do you guys need anything? Like do you need to check the property or anything?"

Ahmed said, "Yeah, that would be great, thanks. Just so we can know the entrances and exits."

Travis led everyone inside, taking Taylor's suitcase for her and leaving it at the stairs they walked past. "Alright so that was obviously the main front door, then there's the garages through that door to the left, which you need a remote for, so remind me to get one of those for you guys. It's steel so nobody should be able to get through that. Then there's a door to outside in the laundry, which is just through here but I always leave it locked, and the main doors to the backyard are just over here. Uhh, they're glass but it's supposed to be nearly impossible to break."

Taylor noticed that he seemed to be trying to prove that his house was safe enough for her, which was unnecessary but it was so sweet how much he cared. "Your house is so beautiful, babe, it's so bright and open and sunny."

"Thank you," Travis smiled at her, resisting the cheesy urge to tell her that she was just even more beautiful. He wasn't sure how comfortable she would be with him saying things like that in front of her security. "I'll show you guys where your rooms are."
