Beyonce's POV

After running around this morning, getting myself together, and then having to wait for Giselle to get ready, I'm finally seated in my classroom waiting for my students to arrive.

I'm nervous about what today might bring, I haven't taught a class since my husband's passing and the reason for that is, I couldn't bare walking in that school. I didn't have the courage too. Having all those people feeling bad for me, I couldn't handle that. So I left and never returned.

Starting over here gave me the courage to want to continue my teaching career, and I'm excited to see what today brings.

I checked a couple emails that I was sent from my mom regarding teacher meetings. "God I hope today goes well." I breathe out.

The bell rung meaning students were going to eventually start heading to my class, so I went to open my classroom door, and greet everyone individually. The hall started to pile up with kids in between the ages of fourteen and nineteen. Everyone seemed to be in their own world but that's expected for the first day.

My first class today is a smaller group, not that many kids, only about twelve. So I don't expect many kids to be coming my way. A couple seconds went by and I see Giselle headed to my class after deciding to sit in the cafeteria where the other students sat before class. "Hey bab-"

"Mom please no." She rushes right pass me sitting at a desk far in the back.

"Hello, I'm lost! I'm looking for 213 but I can't seem to find the class." A young boy approaches me holding up his schedule. "You found the right teacher" I smile.

"Thank you" he returns a smile heading into my class.

After standing for another minute I decided to go sit down at my desk, that's when the other ten students popped in. "I'm sorry it was so hard finding your class!" One of the students spoke

I thought to myself why was it that hard, but then I realized because I had my door open, the classroom number wasn't displayed so they couldn't find the class. I rubbed through my hair feeling a little stupid.

"It's okay, you all can have a seat." I watch as everyone found themselves a place to station at. "Okay, first I would like to introduce myself." I walk to the center of my classroom. "My name is Beyonce, I was born and raised here in Houston, this is my first year teaching at Houston Academy, my favorite color is yellow, and I love singing." I look around the classroom to my students. "Now it's your turn to tell me about you." I walked over to my desk to grab the sheets of papers I printed. "So I'll be handing out a paper that I want you all to fill out. Please make sure you answer all of the questions on this questionnaire. This will be considered your first grade."

I walk around giving everyone a paper.

"All right so I'll let each of you work on this for the remainder of class." They all nodded in unison. "perfect" I spoke to myself.

While the kids worked on their assignments I sat at my desk staring off out the windows reflecting on life, thinking about my past, and trying to tie things together to at least make sense in my head.

Maybe this is the plan that is set before me, maybe I don't have it all together now but it will all make sense soon. I believe it.

Before I knew It the second bell rung bringing me out my daze.

And all my students were gone.

Onika's POV

I rewrite my objective on the board, hearing the bell ring once more, meaning my second class is going to float in any minute now.

I sit at my desk watching as the kids flow in.

They seem more awoke than my previous students, which make sense. Usually the first period students are still drowsy after having to wake up so early for school.

After all the students arrive, i sit and stare at them. Of course they all look timid. First day of high school who wouldn't be nervous.

I walk over to the front of the classroom while starting my speech.

"Hello Class, my name is Ms. Maraj and I am your Algebra II Math Teacher. I know some of you are nervous because this is your first day of high school. So I will be lenient on you all today. For today we will get to know each other and I will lay down all the rules with you. Now would you like to go first or would you prefer me to?" I ask.

I see all the kids look at each other nervously and stare back at me. "Answer my question please." I say to the class.

One girl stands up and the whole class just stares at her. "Can you go first... maybe if you talk about yourself first it will help us loosen up a little?" she sits back in her sit.

I smile at her bravery.

"As I stated before my name to you all is Ms. Maraj but my birth name is Onika Maraj. I am 30 years old. I am the oldest to my 2 younger sisters. I was born and raised in New York and later moved here to Houston for college and now I am a full time teacher." I see the same student who spoke up previously raise their hand.

"yes?" I ask as I point to them.

"Do you have children? Are you married?" the student ask.

"Well unfortunately no, I am not married nor do I have any children its just little old me" I laugh at their shocked faces.

"Awe that's depressing"

"No way!"

"I know your life is BOR-ING"

"plot twist maybe she don't got kids cause she gay. Are you Gay?"

"The body is T though Queen"

I start to get swarmed by some of the students comments. I continue to laugh cause they are kinda clocking. THEY ARE MESSY.

"To answer y'all nosey questions, and fyi im only giving y'all the scoop. First, no, it's not as depressing as it may seem. I just know my worth and you should all know yours too. Secondly, me being gay is none of your business I'm grown stay in a child's place" I say trying to keep my stern demeanor.

"Definitely Gay" someone spoke under their breath

I ignore the comment. I am a lesbian but thats not their business.

"Now its your turn to introduce yourselves to me" I look around the room.

As many students introduce themselves I get to the student who was brave enough to speak up. "My name is Samaria, I'm 14 years old, and my favorite color is green" I nod. After Samaria the rest of the students introduce themselves. I took note of everyone's name.

I repeated the same process for my next couple of classes which allowed me to finish my day strong.

All of my students seemed like great kids. They just were a little nosy which I didn't mind at all, it made me laugh.

Each class brought in a whole bunch of new faces except for Beyonce's daughter.

Giselle was one of my students for my last period but she didn't show. I wondered what happened but I decided to mind my business. First days are rough so I get it.

I just decided to keep the peace and marked her present just to have her back.

Maybe I'll ask her the next time she comes to my class..
