Onika's POV
Teaching kids is not for the weak, most people think being a teacher is an easy job but it's not. We deal with our issues and then turn around, and we have to be strong for the students we teach. We get so attached to these children as if they are our own.
I gazed around my class at each student, at school they're so focused and determined to learn but who knows what these children deal with when they leave this classroom. All of these children in here have gone through different hurdles in life yet they are here getting their education.
They don't know it, but they inspire me.
They are great kids and I hoped each of them knew how great they were individually. "Ms. Maraj" I hear Giselle. She points at the young girl sitting beside her, I notice her hand is raised, "Yes Yara, honey?" I motion for her to come to my desk.
Yara is very shy, she doesn't talk much and she's quite a loner.
But somehow, she and Giselle grew a bond.
Yara was one of my students that I couldn't mentally read, I couldn't understand her as easily as the other children. Some days she would come in looking sad or out of it, I wondered why but refused to pry. "I just wanted to know if it was okay I turned my homework in early, I finished but I don't want to be holding onto it and eventually misplace it" she spoke softly. "Of course" I smile.
She handed me her homework but I felt a feeling of uneasiness when I looked toward her. She looked tired, very thin, dehydrated, and drained mentally. She handed me her homework but before she walked away I geared her back to my desk. "Is everything okay?" she slowly nodded. "are you sure" she nodded once more. "I am always here if you need anything. Okay?" she smiles, nodding.
Yara walked back to her desk.
I thought to myself something wasn't right but I respected her privacy. It was not my place to assume.
Eventually, the bell rang, signaling the end of my class. I watched as each kid left one by one. Once the room was clear I cleaned off my desk, happy for the weekend to begin.
I was excited to go to Principal T's 'Get Together', I haven't been out of the house so this will give me a little break from boredom.. plus Beyonce will be there.
I packed up my things heading to my matte black charger, I pressed my key fob starting my car. As it roared I saw someone jump from the sound of the engine. "Oh lord that scared me." from that voice I knew it was Beyonce's. "I'm sorry I didn't mean to scare you," I spoke as I approached the vehicle. "Onika you drive this!?" she asked looking shocked.
"Yes," I laugh.
"It's a very beautiful car, don't get me wrong, I just wasn't expecting that strong engine." Beyonce opened her car door setting down her things. "What kind of car is it?" she questioned. "It's a Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat... It's a sports car."
"I've heard about cars like those, they go extremely fast! Are you one of those people who love cars?" I watched Beyonce's every move. "Yeah, when I was little my father used to always take me to go see Nascar Races, and ever since I've been addicted. I also used to work at this auto repair shop as a teen. So I know a lot when it comes to cars."
"That is perfect now I know who to come to when I'm having car troubles." She smiled turning her attention back to me once she's placed everything in her car. I noticed Giselle was not with her.
"Do you be racing?" we locked eyes.
"Yeah sometimes. I go out to car meets and race for the adrenaline from time to time. Usually, I go with my little sister and her friends, I be letting them hang out the window." she giggles. "I can just imagine-."
