I hum quietly to myself as I flip pancakes, waiting for Peter to come back from whatever crime he's fighting. He apologizes profusely every time he has to leave in the middle of us talking or hanging out--or, in this case, making breakfast--but I truly don't mind. It gives me time to process whatever we were just talking about, or look up the name of an actor in the movie we're watching and pop us some popcorn. Usually, I have my best ideas when he's out doing Spider Stuff.
I've been trying to figure out if him feeling bad in an internal thing, or an outside thing. Does he feel bad for leaving, or did someone else make it so he feels bad when he leaves? My only guess is MJ, since she's the only other person who knows Peter is Spider-Man, however, I have no proof. Just a vague hunch.
The window slides open, then closed, and I hear Peter talking as he walks over to plop himself down on one of the stools.
"Okay, sorry," I hear him talking through his mask at first, quickly hearing his voice clear when he takes it off. "I'm back. What were you saying?"
"Well, first of all," I walk over, setting a plate of pancakes in front of him and grabbing the syrup I had set on the kitchen island. "You don't have to apologize for being Spider-Man."
He takes the syrup out of my hands as I tilt the bottle over my pancakes, ignoring my small protest as he pours it over his own pancakes instead, urging me to continue speaking as if he didn't just steal a vital part of my breakfast.
"Okay, you do have to apologize for stealing the syrup while I'm using it, that's unnecessary." I try to hide the little smile sneaking it's way onto my face as I snatch it back from him, interrupting him in the middle of pouring it. "But I was saying I found part of a name for that scientist they hired for the project,"
"Oh!" He leans forward, eagerly waiting for me to continue, an excited smile on his face that I really hate to deflate.
"But, I couldn't find anything else about him," I shake my head, a small frown on my face. I really did my best, but whoever he is, either did absolutely nothing his entire life, or is really, really good at hiding every little detail about himself. Or, he doesn't exist, and I'm starting to think that's the case.
"Oh," His frown follows mine, more sympathetic than disappointed.
"Yeah, I know." I sigh, sitting on the stool next to him. "His name is Elias H. He was hired for the project, and then he disappeared a week later. I cannot find a thing about him."
There's no picture of him, no date of birth, no place of birth, no parents, just half a name and a project. Hard to find someone specific with no last name. Maybe if he had an incredibly specific first name, it would be more feasible. However, 'Elias' isn't exactly on the 'rare names' card. My name is more rare than that, and I'm named after like, 3 different cities or something.
Peter takes a bite of his pancakes as he nods, looking off at nothing as he thinks for a while, assumingly trying to figure out ways to get more information on the scientist. My phone buzzes, and I peek over at the screen, sighing before I pick it up.
