Alice

I've been thinking of what happened last night. Luke gave Calum the silent treatment on our journey home. I know it's a bit weird but he was acting like a jealous boyfriend. And he can't give me the silent treatment because we don't talk at all. Except for that one time though.

I was riding my bike, strolling around Lenka when I first saw him. He was lighting up a cigarette by then. As he takes a long drag from it, the other end tip ignites like a coal on fire.

Suddenly, he looks up. My gaze may have been too much of a scrutiny that he felt it even with my distance.

He then decides to cross the road, approaching me.

"Want some?" He asks ever so smugly. He has one corner of his lips tipped up.

"Do I look like I smoke?" I said and then I drove off.

Yeah, that was the very first and probably the last time we communicated.

To think that, last night, he's got his bony bottom separating me from the love of my life, Calum, just frustrates me even more. Calum would have brought me to his apartment and continued where we left off if it were just us, cruising the road.

Ashton is the oldest amongst the members of the band, so that makes him older than me as well. Plus, he has his ways and he acts more mature than most students here in Brookdale.

I wonder if I could ask him.

Yeah, that's a great plan. I'll ask him after school.

After the last period, I immediately run out of the classroom, screaming Ashton Irwin's name in the sea of students.

"Ashton! Irwin! Ashton! Where are you?" I circled around the courtyard, yelling desperately but Ashton didn't show up. Maybe I should be louder.

"ASHTON IRWIN!"

"Hey, Styles!"

I follow where the voice came from and found Michael. Why is his hair black? Is he sad?

"Tell me I'm not wasting my time." I fold my arms across my chest, waiting for the once green-haired best friend of Calum to speak of why he requires my attention.

"It's Calum and Luke."

I don't give a penny for Luke. But I wouldn't want him to know that, seeing as he's in a sombre mood.

"What about them?" I ask lazily, acting as if I don't care at both of the persons he just mentioned when inside, I am screaming, "I don't care about Luke, just tell me what happened to Calum!"

Michael opens his mouth to speak, only to be hit by a rampaging group of football athletes.

Oh my gosh!

"Are you alright?"

He lifts his head for a second before finally losing his consciousness.

"So why were you looking for me? I thought I was just hearing things."

I clung on Ashton's arm as we are seated on the plastic chairs provided by the school nurse.

"I've been meaning to ask you something." I mutter. What if he confirms my theory? Will it change my attitude towards Luke? Will I treat him the same? Or should I just act as if I know nothing?

"Are you asking me out on a date? Because I'd definitely say yes."

It was like a bucket of ice-cold water is spilled on top of my head down to my feet.

"What in the world gave you that idea?"

Ashton shrugs his shoulders."Let's see. The way you're clinging on my arm is just telling me so."

I instantaneously let go. Hah! I never thought he is so full of himself.

"You can't avoid my charm forever." Ashton winks at me and I could just puke right now. Preferably on his too tight jeans. "So, are you gonna ask me your question or what?"

"Oh!" I almost forgot. "Yes. That. Well, last night, at Princess's party, Lu-"

"That was a sick party."

"-wait! Party's become sick as well?"

Ashton stares at me like I've grown a horn on my forehead.

"What?"

"Just get on with whatever you wanted to ask."

I would've finished if you're not interfering. "Luke acted weird."

"He always does. All of them. I'm the only normal member of the band."

I want to come out of my body and see what my reaction is like. Did I perfectly portray my heartfelt bewilderment at his statement? If so, he doesn't seem to be distracted at all.

"Anyway, he ignored Calum and, naturally, me on our way home last night."

Ashton puts a finger on his chin, rubbing some few sprouting stubbles from it.

"He was quiet ever since he saw Calum almost kissing me."

Ashton was just nodding, eating dried bananas as he did so.

"Is he gay?" I finally dropped the bomb that is my question.

All the already chewed banana chips burst out of Ashton's mouth like a fountain as he starts coughing and gagging.

"Are you dying?" I swear, his face has turn the shade of pink and now it's the colour of green. Greener than my eyes.

The nurse stands from behind her desk and gets a cup of water, handing it to the poor fella.

"Is he okay?" I ask, tears about to fall from my eyes. "He's not dying, is he?"

"Of course he isn't. He's just choking." The woman shakes her head at me like I was the culprit.

"What did I do?" Surely, the surveillance camera at that corner witnessed and recorded my every move. And I didn't do anything to Ashton.

Finally, Ashton is back to his health. "Luke Hemmings?" Cough. "Gay?" He stammers in glee as he can't suppress it anymore.

And then he was laughing. Throwing his shaggy mane back and cackles loudly.

"Shush!" The nurse narrows her eyes at him.

"Sorry." He mutters to the nurse. "Why do you think he's-" He makes this sound like an engine of a car that won't start before he could finish, "-gay?"

Has he gone mental because of that thing he's eating? I swear I will never lay a finger on banana chips anymore.

"It was obvious that he is jealous. Jealous of me because he likes Calum!"

Ashton grabs my forearm and drags me out of the infirmary and then we're off to the football field.

That's when he gives in to a full belly laugh. He was just there, tearing his mouth wider, cackling like a lunatic whilst I was deprived of  the chance to run away from his foolish antics for he still has his strong grip on my wrist.

And I thought he is mature. Maybe I'm mistaken? Or maybe I am the one who's barking mad here?

"He is not gay, silly."

"He's not?" I doubt it. I saw it in his eyes that he was hurt.

"Nope. But he definitely is jealous."

I really don't get him.
