Golden Horizons Rehabilitation Center

POV: Kai Najima (18)
A quiet room in the Golden Horizon Rehabilitation Center. The late afternoon sun filters through the large windows, casting a warm glow on the wooden floor. Kai Najima sits by the window, staring out at the tranquil gardens but seeing only the haunting memories of that fateful day.
Sunset Valley Slaughter...that's what they called it.
An entire hospital plunged into death and despair, and they labeled it a fucking slaughter.
Kai clenched his fists, his knuckles turning white.
It wasn't a slaughter. It was a warzone, a battlefield carved into sterile hallways and operating rooms.
His mind replayed the scenes like a relentless horror film. The acrid smell of smoke, the deafening screams, the frantic cries for help.
And I was there. Not as a hero, not like my old man.
No, I was just Kai Najima, the fifteen year old quirkless son of Red Ronin, and all I felt was a white-hot rage that choked any scream that might have escaped my throat.
He could still see the twisted figures of patients and staff, caught in the chaos. His mother, Kalila Najima, fought valiantly, her Wraith quirk flickering with ethereal energy as she protected the innocent.
But even she couldn't fend off the sheer destruction wrought by Victor Vosk, The Emperor.
Five years had passed since that day.
Kai's gaze shifted to his reflection in the window, seeing the scars etched into his skin and soul.
He was no longer the naïve boy who dreamt of becoming the world's greatest hero.
That dream died....alongside my mother.
He closed his eyes, the sound of his father's voice echoing in his ears.
"Kai? What are you doing here?! It's dangerous! You could have gotten hurt or worse."
Kai's heart ached at the memory.
He had wanted to help, to make a difference, but he had been powerless.
"I couldn't just stand back and do nothing. You and Mom taught me better than that."
The weight of his father's expectations had been a heavy burden, one he carried even now.
Red Ronin was a symbol of strength, honor, and hope.
And Kai?
He was just the quirkless son trying to live up to an impossible legacy.
