" Lane, my dear sexy teacher," Charles called out as he stepped into his - their - condo , closing the front door behind him. " Daddy's home, you naughty boy. "
But he was greeted by an almost eerie silence that he didn't really like. After the day he had had he wanted to see the man. Hear the man. Kiss him.
He also didn't like the half empty walk in closet in their bedroom. Or the empty dresser drawers that were Lane's. Or that the condo seemed to be erased of everything and anything Lane Davis.
For the first time since he had seen that gun pointing at him Charles LeClair felt scared. Where the hell was Lane?
His heart started to beat fast and furious as he pulled out his iPhone to dial a number he never used.
Lane's older brother Dennis answered on the fifth ring with a hesitant and angry tone. " He doesn't want to talk to you," Dennis retorted. " Or see you. So leave my brother alone. Don't call my phone again. "
Then the mild mannered and meek insurance salesman hung up.
Charles wasn't taking that. He knew Lane was there with his DC family. Where else would he be? He dialed Lane's cell. It rang and rang and rang until it went to voicemail. It did that for most of the night until Charles finally fell asleep on the black leather sofa, holding the one thing Lane had left behind.
His ugly red green and grey pullover sweater. The one Charles hated so much.
Love. His grandfather was right. All those years of training and browbeating at the hands of Alistair LeClair. Love was not worth it.
Charles fell asleep and immediately saw Lane smiling in his dreams.
