The higher-ups had planned for many decades to eradicate all the families who stood their ground, deciding to help and use their powers for good.
The Geto family was wiped out a long time ago, torn out from history. The Gojo and Geto clans were a strong force when combined. Both had powers and abilties that complemented one another. Like Ying and Yang.
The ability to absorb energy and manipulate curses was revered and those who could do it where considered blessed by God.
Overpowering and murdering in cold blood years ago ended the sucession of many clans.
Identifying Geto's power, the Time Vessel Association had years ago managed to kidnap a child of Geto blood. This was something the Jujutsu sorcerers had decided to use. Threatening to spill the secret of their crimes, in turn for money and their cooperation.
The higher-ups wanted Gojo singled out, and they wanted Geto gone. They knew with Suguru, Satoru would never falter. They wanted to offer Gojo to Tengen. Hoping he'd be manipulated and absorbed in the loss of his friend.
The entire plan had one single loophole.

Neither Jujutsu sorcerers nor Time Vessel Association could have prepared for that.
They were peeved and outraged, seeing Geto walk around smiling. Happy, powerful. They thought that mentally affecting him and stealing his hope would cause his self-esteem to dip. They still weren't aware of who his fiance was, and they tried to dig deep and find out when she arrived at his hometown.
The Gojo family backed Satoru up in a way that Geto didn't have. They never stood a chance with Gojo, and felt that tearing the two friends apart and making Geto turn mad with thr horrors would be easier. They wanted him weak. Enough to just stamp on him and destroy him.
With Gojos techniques and Getos abilty to manipulate and absorb curses, combined with their belief in doing good and helping, the Jujutsu world would never become an entity which could bully and harrass.
The two big names of their world didn't give up, so that meant their plan to be independent, abstaining from their duties would be foiled.
Exhausting as their petty plan seemed. They forged forward. Almost succeeding, except for the fact that, they didn't expect someone like Akari to come in.
She healed Geto, mentally and emotionally. She reinforced the friendship of Gojo and Geto that was dwindling. They hung out more and she made attempts to always get the group together.
Akari was a light that miraculously entered their lives, healing them. Spreading happiness, making everyone want to give their best.
Akari tried her best to help. She didn't want to intervene too much. She coaxed them back to talking and opening up.
