Akari's face immediately dropped. her eyes watered as everybody had been congratulating her, yet she felt like a part of her was dying. how could her father force her into a marriage she wasn't even aware of? how could he do this?
"Kang Taehyun and Princess Akari, could you please come and accept or reject this marriage?"
the girl watched as the boy who was once sitting across from her stood up, with a small frown on his face. he was almost as unhappy as she had been.
in that instant, Akari picked up the ends of her dress, storming up the staircase and out of the room, shoving her father's shoulder in the process.
"excuse me." the king soon said to Taehyun and the others, leaving the room and chasing after his runaway daughter.
he saw the girl's silhouette inches from her, as she ran, until he screamed her name.
"Akari!"
"NO!" she looked back at him, tears streaming down her face. "i'm not marrying a boy i don't know."
"you will know him. he is honorable and respected and he is the perfect fit-"
"i don't want to!" she screamed, wiping her tears. "God, what is wrong with you, father!"
"after all the time and energy i put into choosing the best suitor for you, you will do as i say."
"i refuse!" she let her wrist escape his grip and felt her hair fall out of its pinned up state. she pointed a finger at herself as she sobbed. "i-i will choose who i marry and who i love-you have no authority to do that. you humiliated me in front of everybody and you didn't even bother telling me anything before this."
"i am doing what's best for you!"
"you ruined our kingdom and you will not ruin my life. and i will not marry the man you chose for me and i will choose who i love!" she screamed at him.
"i am the king. and i am your father! you will speak to me as such."
Akari sobbed before turning her back on him and yelling at him one more time, "mother would've never let this happen." she picked her dress up and ran to her bedroom.

the girl sat in the dark, sobbing in the comfort of her mattress. she didn't bother to open the lights, she just sat and sobbed.
she would be wed to a boy she doesn't even know yet the boy she really loves must be kept a secret from the whole kingdom. what was she supposed to do?
she found herself trying to feel for the empty space on her ring finger that would usually be occupied by now.
the gardens of Chihu bloomed with flower of the spring. the pink, the yellow and white of the blooms were succumbed in the green of the flora.
the black haired boy plucked a daffodil and placed it behind the girl's ear, pecking her slightly on the cheek. she toyed with the fabric of her white dress as they sat on the rocks of the forest. it had been hidden-their sanctuary.
"have i ever told you how beautiful you are, Akari?" Yeonjun smiled, placing her hair behind her ear.
"of course you have." she laughed.
"i have a gift for you." he rustled in his pocket until he found a red box decorated in pink bow. he pulled at the string, unraveling the bow in the process. the box soon opened with a silver ring in the center.
Yeonjun took the ring out of the box and placed it on the girl's finger.
"this is a promise ring. we obviously can't get married so i can't propose, but i hope this shows my everlasting commitment and love to you." he held up his hand and showed his matching ring.
"i love it." she smiled, embracing the boy. "and i love you."
"i'll love you eternally, even if the world is against us."
Akari sobbed and stood up, reaching for the box she placed on her nightstand. clutching it to her heart, she sobbed as her tears flowed down her face.
"Yeonjun." she muttered under her breath.
nothing could ever be the same.
