Chapter 2. Fennelspot and Lightberry

Fennelspot's POV

The stream gurgled on as Fennelspot sipped from the cold water. The whole ruckus with the badger was over and she could finally go on the first hunt of being a warrior. It had been a moon since she had been made a warrior, but it kept being delayed due to the large amount of cats in the clan. Mushroomtail, her littermate, was still recovering so Fennelspot was just killing time. She wandered into the medicine cat den.
"Blossomwish! Rabbitnose!" she shouted. Blossomwish came out. "Yes? What do you need?" she responded annoyedly.
"When do you think Mushroomtail will be able to go on the hunt?"
Blossomwish looked very concerned. "Not anytime soon. She's traumatized. Yarrowfoot was pretty rude to her while they were on patrol."
"Ok. Thanks. Whatever. Ha."
Fennelspot walked away hurriedly, as Blossomwish muttered "Tch." Not wanting the medicine cat to see her ashamed face.
The other cats on the hunt, Rosewind and Nightclaw, were ready to get going. "Mushroomtail hasn't recovered yet. Yarrowfoot's  a total jerk." Fennelspot reported.
They started walking. "Poor Mushroomtail," Rosewind said sadly, "She doesn't deserve that."
"Before you were born, Fennelspot," Nightclaw spoke, "Yarrowfoot broke the warrior code."
"What did he do?" Fennelspot asked excitedly. "When he was an apprentice, he ran away, and for a moon he was missing. When he came back, it took him three extra moons to be come a warrior."
"Just like Larchkit." Rosewind said suddenly, bitterly. Rosewind was a close friend of
Frogtail, whose kit had been missing for moons.

Everybody was silent for a while until Nightclaw whispered, "We're here."
Fennelspot's ears twitched. It was a beautiful sun dappled meadow packed with bountiful amounts of rabbits, mice, and sparrows. She was about to try pouncing on a plump raven but Rosewind held her back with her tail.
"Wait." she murmured.
A menacing looking tortoiseshell and white she cat was prowling around a redwood tree. "That's Daphne," Nightclaw whispered. "Kittypet by night, violent rogue by day. They say she's kin of Sol." The name "Sol" send shivers down Fennelspot's spine. She met Sol once, when she was a young kit,  he told her shocking secrets about the clans... she still had nightmares about what would happen if Sol had conquered the clans and reigned supreme.

Lightberry's POV

Lightberry anxiously pounced on a shrew in the cool shade. It was sun high, and his mate, Morningbreeze, was giving birth to their kits. He was terrified. Mostly because the medicine cats were composed of a very elderly tom and a very young she cat. Morningbreeze seemed calm enough, but Marigold was terrified as well and kept giving her giant pawfuls of poppyseeds and borage.
Frogstar padded over and smiled. "She'll be alright. Don't worry."
Lightberry grinned nervously. "Uh huh."
Suddenly, a deafening yowl came from the medicine cat den. "Morningbreeze is giving birth!" Marigold screeched.
Lightberry dashed to the den. "Is she ok?" Vinepath didn't respond and instead mewed, "The first one is a tom." Lightberry peered into the den. A tiny, sticky, black kit was mewling as Morningbreeze licked his head. "How many kits are in her?" Lightberry asked the old medicine cat. "We suspect about 3-4," Vinepath replied anxiously. "OH! Here's comes another!!" The queen yowled. Lightberry winced. Marigold massaged her back hurriedly. Vinepath held his paws out to catch the kit. Morningbreeze screamed in relief. "This one is another tom.. a very large one." Lightberry peeked in again. A large, dark grey, kit was writhing around on the moss. It was so big it looked like an apprentice already. Lightberry sighed in relief.

By sundown, Lightberry was the father of four kits: Acornkit, a black tom, Troutkit, a large dark grey tom, Daisykit, a small white she kit, and Creamkit, a pale cream she kit. Morningbreeze was recovering while Marigold shoved borage into her. Lightberry was worried about the kits finding out about his father...
