Synthia struggled to pay attention in her AP World History class. It didn't matter anyway, with her abilities she was extremely intelligent. Just then the bell rung and before Synthia could leave, Mrs Ball said

"Ms Harrington, Can I see you for a moment."

Synthia walked up and replied "Yes, Mrs Bell."

"As you know I teach U.S History and I have a student who is struggling with the material and I was wondering if you could help tutor him."

"Sure. Who is this student exactly?"

"Well you see it's one of my more troubled students."

"It's Eddie Munson, isn't it."

"Yes. Well I figured you both are very..." the teacher paused for a moment, trying to find a word that wouldn't offend the girl, when Synthia said "Weird? Crazy? Batshit insane?"

"I was going to say distinctive personalities but I guess you can describe it that way."

"Does he know about this?"

"I did talk to him about it and he thought it was a good idea."

"Of course he did." Synthia sighed before hurrying out of the class.

She found the boy by her locker and walked up to him.

"You do know this is my locker right?" She spoke as she put in her locker combination

"Of course I do, everybody does. They keep track of when you go so they can steer clear of you." Eddie joked.

"Are they afraid I'm going to use them as a human sacrifice in my next spell?"

" Something like that. By the way, the same times every day. It's impressive."

"I like to keep a schedule. It's the only thing that keeps me sane sometimes."

"Why's that?" Eddie spoke in his more concerned tone

"I'm not going to open up to you." She said, grabbing her books and leaving, while the boy followed her.

"Look I know that you're not the type to trust people but some people just want to get to know you. No ulterior motive."

"What kind of bullshit fantasy are you living in? Everybody has ulterior motives for everything. There's no such thing as a good person. It's all hunter or prey. And those prey get killed very quickly. But sometimes a hunter pretends to be prey so they can lore the hunters out, and hunt them. Or A prey becomes a hunter and the only way to make sure you're safe is to never trust anyone or anything."

"How do you know that?"

"because that's been my entire life. I'm pretty sure you know the story, everybody does."

"The one where Steve found you in the woods covered in blood when you were 12? Yeah, but I want to know how or why you were there or why you were covered in blood."

"It's simple Munson, that's when I became a hunter instead of being hunted."

Synthia sat in her English class with a pounding headache as Isabelle walked in and sat next to her.

" You alright?" The girl asked

"Yeah, just a headache."

"Why did your boy toy get you high?"

"Which one? Munson or my brother?"

Andrea joked

"Neither. And I can't get drunk or high, you both know that." Synthia spoke, slightly aggressively

"Eddie and you seemed friendly earlier. have something you wanna tell us?"

"Other than the fact that he invited me to join Hellfire no."

"What's that like a drug ring." Andrea spoke

"Gross, no! It's a DND club."

"Sure it is." Isabelle said

Synthia rolled her eyes at the comment and said "There's another thing, my powers have been pulling me towards something."

"Like with the upside down?" Andrea questioned

"Obviously. What else would pull me towards it?"

"A certain long haired freak."

Synthia gave the girls a death glare which signaled them to shut up.

"Syn the gate is closed. I'm sure it's just some leftover upside down matter. It's over." Andrea spoke

"Yeah. We say that every time but then it never is. If you guys aren't going to believe me, I'll investigate this myself."

Synthia walked into the backstage of the theater to be greeted by Eddie.

"Am I late?" She asked

"Early actually. People don't get here for another 20 minutes. I'm just early to set up." he responded somewhat coldly

"Is there anything I can do to help?"

"Nope . Our Hellfiress shouldn't have to get her hands dirty."

"Excuse me."

"Oh um. Everybody in Hellfire gets a nickname and since we've agreed you're way cooler than all of us combined and -ess sounded royal. Hellfiress."

"I'm cooler than all of you?" She questioned

"Yeah you're like freak royalty. Everybody loves to hate you because you're better than them. You're a mystery no one can solve."

"So people just want me to be predictable?" she spoke, walking closer to the boy

"Yeah I mean it's a small town. People want to figure everyone out. They want to know everything about everyone. It's hard to keep secrets here."

"Not as hard as you might think. People here are close minded, they have one perception of reality so they don't see what's in front of them. I mean everyone has secrets, it's just if people want to see them or not."

"So that's how you knew my secret drug difference. You're open minded to the impossible." He said , stepping close to her

"I am the impossible. That's my mystery. You're not a freak Eddie, none of your club is. You're just the limit of what this small town is willing to understand."

"What about you?" Eddie asked, looking into her green eyes.

"What do you mean?"

"What makes you a freak, Harrington?"

"There's no such thing as a freak. It's a made up term to make people who are different feel bad. I'm a witch, not a freak."

"So what makes you a witch then? Do you cast spells or hold blood sacrifices?"

Synthia laughed and said "Something like that."

Eddie smiled and said "Well I was unsuccessful at solving you but successful at making you smile."

"50% success rate. That seems like that would be good for you."

When Hellfire ended, Synthia headed down to the basement to try to find some evidence of the Upside Down. She heard a noise and as she turned the corner, she flipped the person on their back just to realize it was Dustin.

"Jesus Dustin! I could have killed you." She spoke, helping the boy up.

"What the hell are you doing here?" She asked

"My compass was acting wonky."

"So a gate must be down here. Shit."

They started walking, towards the direction that Synthia's Upside Down connection led them. When suddenly they heard someone yell "Stop! Hawkins Police!"

Both of them turned around with their hands up as the lights shined in their faces.
