Synthia slipped through Dustin's window. She knew whatever was giving off Upside Down energy had to be here
"Hold on. I'll find you a snack, little buddy." She heard Dustin say from the Hallway, wondering what he was referring to.
Soon enough Dustin walked through the door. At first he was scared till he realized it was just Synthia.
"What the hell are you doing here? How did you get in and-"
Before he could say anything else, Synthia put her hand over his mouth to avoid his mom finding out about the upside down situation.
"I'll explain everything. Now are you going to shut up so I can?"
Dustin nodded and Synthia retracted her hand and shut the door.
"First of all, you need to keep your window locked. I was expecting it to be harder to break in. For your first question I know you have something from the upside down."
"And what if I do?"
"You better give it to me or I'll break your arm."
"Well good thing I don't have it."
"You know that I know you're lying right?"
"Fine I found something in my trash can but I didn't know what it was so I took it in."
"Where is it?"
"I don't know." Dustin said as he looked over to the turtle enclosure with the sheet covering it
"Dustin I swear you need to get better at lying." Synthia said as she walked over and pulled the sheet off to reveal a creature from the upside down.
"Are you keeping a creature from the upside down as a house pet?" she asked the boy
"No, maybe."
"Dustin, I swear to god-" She started then she noticed the missing turtle "Wait, Where's the turtle? Did you evict the turtle?" She said
"Dart needed a place to stay." Dustin defended
"You named the creature?" She then spotted the turtle and while she went to pick it up she said "I swear Dustin Henderson, you're going to be the death of me."
She smiled at the turtle as she held it and said "I know Dustin's an idiot isn't he?"
"I can't believe you're insulting me to my own turtle."
"Don't bring dangerous creatures in and evict your turtle, then."
Synthia set down the turtle in a glass box on Dustin's desk and turned the heat lamp on towards the turtle.
"Now we may have discovered another gate by Sycamore. Andrea, Hopper, Isabelle and I may be going back tomorrow to investigate. For now keep that thing out of sight and in the cage. Understand."
"Yes. wait, who's Andrea?"
"Another Lab subject. It doesn't matter. What matters is if you need to you have to kill it."
"Yes, Synthia."
"Good, I'll see you later."
Hopper and Isabelle dragged her to the lab. It was the first time she's been there since she was thrown into the upside down by Dr Brenner when she was 6.
They were in Dr Owens' office as Hopper was showing him the patterns they recognized from the farms.
"Grass, crops, trees. Everything in this area is either dead or dying, and that's a radius of over three miles. And it all leads back to here." Hopper said
"See, these patterns here are really pretty. I like the design. It's almost psychedelic."
" Is this some joke to you?" Isabelle asked him
"No, it's not a joke. I just... I don't understand what this has to do with me, Chief Hopper."
" Whatever is happening is spreading from this place, from this lab." Synthia said, standing up
"That's impossible. It's... The last burn was two days ago. It's contained."
" What if there's a leak?" Hopper said
"A leak?"
"I don't know, man. You're the scientist."
"Exactly. And I'm telling you there's nothing to worry about."
"Convince us, then." Synthia said
" Convince you?"
"Yeah. You and your egghead friends go out there to every area on this map and you run your tests, or whatever the hell it is you do, and you see if anything comes up. Because we're telling you this isn't just normal poisoning." Synthia stated
"All right, so... So you're... you're giving me orders now?"
" No. I keep things nice and quiet for you... Mmm-hmm. And you keep your sh¡t out of my town. That is the deal. I have done my part, now you do yours." Hopper said
As soon as Synthia got home, she got a call from Lucas telling her about Dart. She rushed to the school to see the group along with a girl she didn't recognize.
"Dustin what the hell is wrong with you" She yelled at the boy
"I know you told me to leave him at home but I had to show them." Dustin defended.
"You knew about Dart?" Natalie said
"She broke into my house."
"Because you were holding a creature from the upside down as a house pet. Ok where is he now?"
"We lost him." Lucas said, fearful of the girl's reaction.
"I'm sorry what!"
"It was Max's fault!" Dustin said, scared of Synthia enough already.
"How is it my fault? You guys refused to let me in so I picked the lock."
"Nice work." Synthia said, impressed at the younger redhead "This isn't her fault, it's Dustin's. I mean I gave simple instructions and you didn't follow them. Now we have to find this creature ok. Dustin, south side of the building. Mike, north. Max, east. Lucas, west. Will, middle halls. Natalie, Cafeteria. I'll take outside. And If you find it, radio. And I'll catch the bastard. Got it?"
A string of yes ma'ams and got its mumbled through the group.
They split off and soon Synthia started to feel a pull. She followed it and found Will.
"I thought you were taking the outside?"
"Well my spidey senses were tingling and it led me here so."
Synthia kicked open the stall and found dart.
"Guys we found him."
"Where?"
"Bathroom by Mr Salermo's"
"On our way."
Will then suddenly rushed out of the bathroom, Synthia followed him and saw him running.
"Will?" She said following him. She realized what was happening.
"We might have a code red, guys." She said in the walkie.
"Copy that."
Synthia found him in the field looking possessed. "Shit" She thought as she tried to thing of a way to help
"Where are you?" Mike said
"Field behind the school."
"We're on our way."
