Chapter 1

In the depths of the deep blue sea, there lived a group of sea people known as mermaids and/or mermen. But combined, they just say merpeople. They inhabit the shipwrecks as their home, and their leader is a merman, who goes by the name Shota Aizawa. Years ago, their clan was attacked by humans who invaded their homes and while seeking refuge, they stumbled upon old shipwrecks left abandoned. They declared it as their new home. Now that many years have passed, he must choose someone to keep the merpeople safe.

This brings us to the present, my name is Izuku Midoriya and the only thing I have to say is that I hate absolutely everyone. Yeah, fuck Aizawa, fuck the merpeople who treat me like an outcast, and fuck all the shitty merpeople that treat me like an object.

Ever since my parents abandoned me, they all assumed that I'm cursed just because of my scales and the color of my tail. Wow, I know. These merpeople take curses pretty seriously because I'm the only merperson that has what they call "Unnatural Scales". I have a white tail and whenever it shines in the sun, all sorts of colors will shimmer in the light.

I don't know why, but I love how I look. I love my fin ears that match my tail, and I love how it glimmers in the sun and all sorts of colors would show. I'm pretty sure that they're very skeptical and even other merpeople refuse to hang out with me. Well, not everyone. Monoma and Kendo don't believe in curses and like me as a friend regardless.

Since I didn't get the same education as everyone else, Monoma and Kendo would sneak some engraved stones and teach me to read. It was pretty hard since the stones were deteriorating, but I managed to get by.

Now, what I didn't know is that merpeople can change their forms. Unbeknownst to my knowledge, they all went on a trip to an island with no humans and practiced how to walk and change forms. Am I upset at that? No... Okay, maybe a little, but! There's a but. I love Monoma and Kendo for doing this, they taught me and it was so awesome. We almost got caught that day, but it was so worth it.

As of right now, I'm searching for some food. Since I have no parents, I'm forced to fend for myself. Now, could I just ask one of my friends to crash at their place? Yes. But am I going to? No, because their parents would say no the minute I enter their homes and kick me out.

There is no such thing as good humans or merpeople in this world. How do I get through the day? Well, I hunt for fish! What? How else are we going to get some protein, just eating kelp is not enough for us to survive? Holding a firm grip on my spear, I swung my arm back and stabbed the unsuspecting fish.

I brought the spear up and pulled the pierced fish, still at the sharp end of the spear with a nonchalant look, "Sorry, buddy. But you had it coming." I grabbed the fish and pulled it out of the spear. Stuffing it in a bag full of other food that I managed to find, catch and kill. "This should do just fine."

I couldn't go too far from the shipwreck refuge, to be honest, it just sounds like a crap name to me. But anyway, I swam back to the town and entered one of the closest shipwrecks, and laid out my haul at the counter of the bar.

He side-eyed me and back at my haul. He rolled his eyes as he finished an order and examined what I brought. "I can give you ten doubloons for these."

"What? No, no, no. That's supposed to be twice as much as I got," I retorted.

He pinched his eyebrows and sighed, "Look, kid. I don't make the rules here. My boss says not to give the exact amount of doubloons because you're—."

"Cursed. I know," I scoffed, "It's bullshit."

The merman threw a bag full of doubloons and I opened it to find twenty instead of ten. I had to do a double take and looked at him, "Just take it and swim away. Before I change my mind."
