omniscient. the next morning.

Amir sighed deeply while removing his keys from the ignition and stepping out of his burgundy Rolls-Royce.

He had just arrived to Onyx's apartment, and his nerves were a little on edge, he slid his key into his pocket, walked up to her front door, and knocked firmly.

The weight of his conversation with Hendrix about this very moment had driven him to call Onyx, hoping it wouldn't escalate into an argument. Clenching his hand into a fist, he knocked again and took a step back, the sound of the lock turning made him move back a bit further.

Onyx appeared, her expression serious yet welcoming as she moved aside to let him in, shutting and locking the door behind her.

As she turned to face him, she immediately pulled him into a hug. Taken aback he wrapped his arms around her gently. "I'm so sorry for not coming to your opening.." She muttered before pulling away, truth be told she missed her older brother and hoped that after this conversation they'd be able to rekindle things fixing their sibling relationship.

"I'm over it now, we gotta talk though.." He spoke as she lead him to her neatly decorated living room, a photo of them as children on display on the tv stand along with Onyx's college degrees and a few photos with her and her friends, Amir sat on couch adjacent from his sister. He couldn't really put into words how he felt in this moment, he missed his sister and wished their mother hadn't come in between them.

"When's the last time you talked to mom?" He questioned sinking into the comfortable couch as his body began to relax.

"Yesterday, why?" She questioned sitting beside him, crossing her legs she rested a pillow on her lap.

"Just asked...I don't get her, why is she actin' like this?" He questioned as Onyx shrugged, unsure of what to say.

"She says you remind her of dad too much and she feels like you owning a dispensary isn't really a reasonable career."

Amir furrowed his brows. "But it- aight you know what. I don't even wanna talk about this shit anymore."

Onyx sighed shaking her head, she knew that they needed to have a deeper conversation, but seeing her bothers facial expression hardening caused her to immediately changing the subject. "Well.. In other news, I have an art show coming up."

"Oh for real?" He questioned becoming excited to see his sister's amazing art work, ever since she was in highschool Onyx always had a feel for art, just like Amir, but he didn't really dive deep into it. "When is it?"

"Next Saturday at seven," Onyx repeated, her eyes lighting up with excitement as  she spoke about her art show. Amir nodded, a small smile tugging at the corners of his lips, but there was still a hint of tension beneath the surface.

"I'm definitely pulling up. You know I gotta support you," he said, his voice a little softer now, the weight of their earlier conversation still lingering but not as heavy.

Onyx smiled, appreciating the effort. "It means a lot, Amir. I know things haven't been easy between us, but I miss this, just us talking like this."

Amir leaned back into the couch, rubbing his palms together before sighing. "Yeah, me too.. I hate how Mom keeps tryin' to pit us against each other. I feel like I can't even talk to her without gettin' judged."

Onyx sighed, her fingers playing with the fabric of the pillow still resting on her lap. "I know, it's like she can't let go of Dad's memory, or at least her version of it. I mean, I get it though, losing him was hard on all of us, but we shouldn't keep paying for it."
