A typical day at the barracks. Some cadets were still trying to get to know one another as groups of trainees gathered at the long table in the mess hall.
"Really?" The black-haired woman was awed. "That must be hard living by yourself at such a young age."
"Well I'm not all alone," Krista retorted, giving Mina a little shrug. "The other people at the farm took care of me from time to time."
"Well, it would be nice to have someone, even a brother or a sister."
"Y-Yeah, you're right." The blonde girl hesitantly replied before shooting her friends with a weak, slightly forced smile. "But it's all in the past. I'm here now living with you guys, I'm happy with that."
"Yeah. I'm happy, too!" Sasha exclaimed. "To be able to live and train with you guys."
Their conversation was interrupted by a sudden thud of a chair that fell on the wooden floor. Their heads simultaneously looked at where the sound came from.
"Y/N?" Sasha confusedly narrowed.
The boy rushed to the table where the girls were which startled them as he stood stiff in front of them.
Their eyes widened, still confused and weirded out slightly. "Then, Krista!" Without any foreword, Y/N burst in front of the blonde who staggered a little from him — abruptly leaning forward.
"W-What is it, Y/N?"
Y/N gulped down everything that was stopping him from blurting his thoughts out. "L-Let me a big brother to you!!"
No one from those teenagers had their prediction come true — something Jean and Connie, two of Y/N's new closest friends, were getting familiar with; Y/N has a weird weird way of expressing his thoughts and feelings.
What was weirder about it was his choice of words and what they thought was making it worse was that Y/N never seemed to put effort into giving it a second thought before blurting it all out like a grenade thrown onto the trenches.
The girls at that table couldn't fathom what they just heard. Some looked surprised, confused, and even disgusted.
"Ehhh??!" Krista grumbled.
"Huh!? Oi!!" Ymir hoisted from her seat and stood between her and Krista. "What the hell are you saying!? Go away, you creep!!"
She pushed Y/N's shoulder, snapping him out to realize what he just said. Shit! "Uhh sorry!" He stammered away from the freckled woman— his hands waving in his defense. "I didn't mean to sound weird! Honest!" He paused. "What I mean is that, let me look after you, l-like a big brother!"
"Hey!! Cut it out!"
Krista ignored Ymir who was blocking her view of the boy so she stood up. "Really? That would be nice!" She replied to Y/N which took Ymir by surprise.
"Krista! What are you saying!?"
"I'm glad!" Y/N returned a warm smile to the short blonde. "It's settled then!"
Krista nodded and her smile widened.
"What the hell!" Ymir groaned.
"Hey, Y/N," Sasha called out. "What about me?"
"Oi Sasha, what are you saying?" Connie suddenly spoke as he approached them from another table.
"What? I'm just asking Y/N if he'll look after me, too. You know."
"That won't be necessary." He confidently declared, one hand resting on his waist.
"Huh!? Why not!?"
"Uhm." Connie pouted whilst pretending to think of a reason as his eyes darted at the ceiling. "B-because I'll do the honor!" He chimed as his fist clenched in front of them. His words made Sasha's eyes widen.
