Chapter 13: Truth or Drink

The mess hall buzzed with laughter and camaraderie as the members of Levi's squad gathered for a rare moment of respite. With Levi, Hange, and Erwin away at a conference, the rest of us had seized the opportunity to unwind, indulging in a game of truth or drink to pass the time.

As the evening wore on and inhibitions waned, the questions grew bolder, the laughter louder. Armin admitted to kissing someone, much to the amusement of the group, while Mikasa's eye roll spoke volumes in response to Jean's inquiry about his chances with her.

But when Connie turned his attention to me, the mood shifted, a hushed anticipation hanging in the air like a heavy blanket. "What's going on between you and the captain?" he asked, his words laced with curiosity.

I felt a flicker of panic rise within me, the weight of their expectations pressing down on me like a suffocating weight. Should I tell them the truth, reveal the tangled mess of emotions that had consumed me in recent weeks? Or should I take the easy way out, drown their inquiries in a sea of alcohol?

In the end, I chose the latter, lifting my glass to my lips and downing its contents in one swift motion. The room erupted into laughter, the tension broken by the collective release of amusement.

But as the questions continued to come, each one more probing than the last, I found myself retreating further into myself, seeking solace in the numbing embrace of alcohol. And as the night wore on and the drinks flowed freely, I felt myself slipping into a drunken haze, the world spinning around me in a dizzying whirl.

Eventually, the festivities began to wind down, the members of the squad dispersing to their respective quarters in search of much-needed rest. But in my intoxicated state, I took a wrong turn, stumbling down the hallway in a clumsy daze until I found myself standing before a familiar door.

With a shrug and a drunken laugh, I pushed it open, collapsing onto the bed with a contented sigh. The softness of the mattress enveloped me like a warm embrace, lulling me into a deep and dreamless sleep.

The next morning, as the first light of dawn filtered through the window, I stirred from my slumber, blinking blearily as I tried to make sense of my surroundings. And as my eyes focused on the figure seated beside me, a smirk playing at his lips, I felt a rush of embarrassment wash over me like a tidal wave.

Levi said nothing, his expression inscrutable as he watched me with amusement dancing in his eyes. And as I struggled to sit up, my cheeks burning with embarrassment, I couldn't help but wonder what he must think of me—crashing in his bed like some drunken fool.
