After a month at Beacon, his team didn't know much about each other. Church felt himself sigh, except for Tai, everyone knew everything about him. For instance, how he had an older sister named Li Mei or simply Mei; that she was a baker in a small town on Patch; that she was twenty four unmarried but still had the same boyfriend from the past four years. The list went on and on, too long for his taste.
'Three years and eleven months, I can make it.' It had become his mantra recently, which wasn't exactly a good sign, but it kept his mind in order so he could overlook it for now.
Qrow snapped his fingers in front of Church's face. "Remnant to Church. Remnant to Church."
He snatched Knock-off Raven's wrist, twisting it roughly. Qrow yelped, jumping away from him, Church released his grasp at that. "What?"
"We're playing a game." Qrow gestured to the board in front of them. "It's your turn."
Church frowned. They were playing a game called Conquer, where you did just that; you conquered the world. "Right." He breathed out a sigh, before moving his pieces into place.
Games weren't fun to him anymore, being an AI meant he could calculate all the moves his opponents could make and play accordingly; he hadn't lost a single game during his time on Remnant. The only games he liked were games of chance, but even those he only played once in a while, seeing as how he could remember how many of that type of card had come up, how the deck was shuffled, and by what everyone else had. Games with dice were usually the best, but again, he could usually tell what side was going to come up based on how he rolled the dice. Conquer was one of complete strategy.
"Church, why on Remnant would you move that piece there?"
He stared at Qrow, a dull expression on his face. "Makes complete sense to me, Birdie."
"Whatever." Church flipped him the bird at the comment.
Raven rolled her eyes at the two; they were always talking trash about the other but honestly seemed to be the closest out of any members of the team, well aside from herself and Qrow. "You gonna go or what, Tai?"
Tai rubbed the back of his head, furrowing his brows. "Um... yeah, just give me a sec'."
The black and red bitch hummed, annoyed. Church knew Tai would be the first out of the game; it was funny he was the only one who had played it before, yet was now the only one sweating.
Alpha looked just above the game board where future moves played out in a blue hologram, one only he could see. Xiao Long made his move, the hologram updating accordingly. Sometimes he thought it was cheating since he was using a computer, but then he remembered that he was the computer, so it was only his natural abilities.
A ding from his scroll made him pull it out, only to see a message from Ruka. 'When's your next break?'
'So, you finally decided to rear your head. It's in a month, why?' He had a feeling it was related to the phone call during his first trip to Vale, Ruka hadn't called or messaged him since then.
'It's not important. So, I'll see you in a month?'
Church paused, hesitating for a second, before he just typed out the thing. 'You okay?' It was more annoying for Ruka to be silently whining about it than for him to just ask.
"Yeah, just miss you.'
And that was a load of crap. Someone who misses someone doesn't just stop contacting them for three weeks. 'Sure, old man.'
The game continued without incident, ending with Church's triumph and Tai's utter failure; just as the AI knew would happen. As per the agreement, Tai gave Alpha twenty thousand Lien, as well as cleaned up the game.
