***Hi! This chapter will be based off the word "Apple". Random, I know, but I thought it kinda made sense because A is for Apple, and this is the first chapter? I know, my logic.***
"You are the apple of my eye." Maxon warbles, kissing my neck. I prop my head up on my hand to glare at him.
"Your babies haven't let me sleep for almost a week, and the night I finally can close my eyes for a few hours and get some rest for once, you wake me up at three in the morning to tell me that I'm the apple of your eye? Correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems like today you're acting like you're the one with the baby brain."
Maxon smiles sleepily, apparently not seeing the distress of my lack of sleep. "You are. You're the mother of my children, my everything, my queen."
I roll my eyes and throw a pillow at him. "Not the time."
My husband shifts in the silken sheets of the bed we share, slightly moving the heavy duvet to the left. Yawning, he mumbles "So grumpy today. It must be the hormones. Dr. Ashlar mentioned that..."
I growl and push the covers off. "Grumpy? Hormones? That's it. I'm leaving." I say sharply, stepping out of bed. As I lunge over to grab my robe from the chair it was lazily tossed on the previous night, Maxon grabs my wrist.
"And where would you go so early?" He smirks up at me. "The Princess Suite." I grumble, struggling to pull myself from his grip. He looks over, a mock pout on his face. "Aww, don't be like that, Ames."
I roll my eyes. "It's so weird when you call me by a nickname my little sister made up." Maxon grins. "Would you prefer I call you 'my dear'? I groan. "Anything but that."
"The price of my refraining from using that particular term of endearment, milady, is that you have to stay here tonight. No Princess Suite for you." I shake my head but decide to play along."Is that all you ask of me, my lord?"
Wiggling his eyebrows, Maxon announces, "Along with a kiss, fair maiden." I sigh. "You are such a dork."
He grins. "Admit it. You like it." I tap my chin, pretending to think. "It's possible, Your Majesty."
"Oh, stop with all this 'Your Majesty' stuff. We're equals."
I smirk. "According to Silvia, the laws of Royal Etiquette state that I must walk a minimum of two paces behind you at all times."
"As soon as I get the castes eliminated-" "And make a law that allows women to be queen." I interject.
"Right. That too. Then we'll get rid of that blasted rule."
We both pause for a moment, lost in our own thoughts, until he speaks again. "So how about that kiss?" I laugh and comply, settling back down into bed.
A few minutes later, Maxon reaches over to poke my protruding stomach through my night dress. Turning my head to look at him, I see that he's leaning down to kiss it, murmuring "Babies, since your mommy refuses, you can be the apples of my eye."
I smile.
